2022 PW winch question

Hey everyone,

I just took delivery of a 2022 Power Wagon this week and love it so far. One thing I noticed is that the winch hook is not attached. I am confident that I can do this easily but wanted to know if the best way to do this would be take off the fairlead? Or go from underneath the bumper and feed it through the fairlead?

I tired doing some research on this but wasn’t able to come up with much as to how this can be done easiest. If it is by removing the fairlead, does anyone know the size of the bolts?

Clip the zip tie and feed the loop through the fairlead. Make sure you have a clear path to the fairlead and don't go over the bracket bolt.

Also, make sure you pre-tension the rope.

I had to do mine as well. Once you look under there, its fairly simple.
Its supposed to be done at the rail yard when they off load the truck. But apparently it doesent always get done.

Had to do the same thing. Couldn't find anything else to pretension it with, so I was out there in the middle of my neighborhood using our Hyundai Palisade

I knew about pretensioning the rope, I just have to figure out the best way to do it. I don’t think my apartment complex would appreciate me dragging the dumpster across the parking lot.

Would be funny though.

I hooked mine to a big dumpster and dragged the truck up to it. Had my buddy in the truck feathering the brake to keep it tight.

Ok, I'll admit to my ignorance, what is the best way to do this? Pretensioning the winch? Just unspool the rope and drag something heavy as you wind it back up? Is there a minimum weight suggested?

WARN used to say they needed to be pretensioned with at least 500lbs but I don't see that anymore. Find a large parking lot and have another buddy bring a vehicle and hook to the vehicle and have him put his in neutral feather the brake lightly and pull him to you. have your vehicle running and in neutral with parking brake fully on. might want to bring some wedges to wedge your front tires as well.

That's pretty much it. Unspool until there are between 5 and 10 wraps of the rope left on the winch and cleanly feed it back in while under load. The owner's manual says something that is "at least 1000 pounds."

For the winch on my Jeep, I hook it to my truck, but the Jeep's ebrake partly on and walk with the Jeep towards the truck. I do this every 6-8 months or after trip if I had to use the winch.

I'll see about hooking up to one of the forklifts at work and dragging that, should suffice.

Find a big tree on a slight uphill, winch yourself towards tree.
Or, find a friend and a parking lot with a slight uphill, winch their vehicle in neutral towards yours.

Note on winching: you should almost always be in the winching vehicle unless the vehicle is in such a percarious place that it’s not safe to be in it, but it’s a safe place to be if something fails. It allows you to winch in neutral with your foot on the brake, rather than putting all the load on the transmission parking park. If you are being recovered, you can be in the truck steering to help recovery, and even have the truck in gear with light throttle application to help getting unstuck, and finally controlling the brakes once unstuck so you don’t crash into recovering vehicle/tree/off hill/etc

I had to use my winch this past Sunday. The rope generally laid in a clean row, but I could feel that it was twisted as it went in through my hand. I will pull it out this weekend and get it to lay flat and ensure that it goes back in the way I want it to.

Under load it will rarely stack nicely. You need to be careful that it doesn’t stack on one spot , if it stacks in one spot it can contact the winch cross bars which can damage your winch

I put in nuetral and pull my vehicle up. Pointing my wife whos behind the steering right and left. I put lateral tension on the rope to switch direction of feed and start a new row

Hello to those with PowerWagons. Could I ask a favor? Could you describe the connection from the control box to the connection at the front of the truck where you plug in your controller? There is a short wire there I think, and I would like to do the same setup on mine without having to relocate the control box. A picture would help me visualize also. It is part #5 in this diagram, but I need to know how long the lead is since my control connection is on the other side of the winch. Thanks in advance.
