Walked out to my truck tonight to grab something and noticed, yet again, some coolant drops on the pavement underneath. Different spot than the previous leak (coolant plug on back of head). Traced this one to the block heater. If you have a 2022, look your truck over for leaks thoroughly. This is about the 7th trip to the dealer for coolant loss I’ve had with this truck. One more work order to add to my growing collection. I’m well over 20 trips at this point. All for build quality issues, warranty work, and recalls. This truck has been back to the dealership more times in 24 months than all my previous (6 prior) trucks combined. You will not find a stronger advocate for the Ram brand, or a more loyal customer. However this truck is seriously straining my faith and confidence in the brand.

My growing list of warranty work orders. Not bad for just under 24 months of ownership.

Holy crap! How many miles on your truck now? My 22 has just over 20k, and a I’ve had the transmission replaced, and it goes in Thursday to replace a front pump seal on the transmission. I think I might crawl under mine tomorrow before I take it in to see if there might be something else. So far just two (aside from recalls which haven’t been completed due to no parts available) for me.

Just shy of 38k so far. Some of those work orders have multiple issues on them. Im going to call the dealer tomorrow. I already emailed them a picture of the block heater leak. Coolant leaks / loss has been a major issue on this truck I’ve battle almost from new. Im hoping they’re going to cover this under powertrain but I guess we’ll see. It’s not a major repair, but it’ll require draining the coolant. I specifically bought another new one because I didn’t want to have to wrench on my own truck, I do that enough for everyone else. I don’t mind routine maintenance but it’s never ending issues with this thing.

Okay. A little ahead of me, but not by much. I do remodeling for a living, and my truck pulls my trailers around. I don’t wrench on anyone’s vehicles, but enjoy it myself so I do all my own. I bought an extended warranty to cover more out to 120k, but am obviously under my factory powertrain.

So what other issues have you had? Mine has not leaked a drop of coolant. I had heard of some of them having rear main seals leak, and I thought that’s what my issue might be… once I pulled the inspection cover and threw a scope up there I knew it was a tranny seal.

Maybe we need to start a thread on this? Or is there one? “2022 repairs under warranty…” or something?

Mine has been transmission, transmission seal, and one of my door trim pieces was replaced because it was starting to peel.

-DEF error message
-DEF injector replacement
-Poor factory alignment that ruined steer tires in 5k
-Replaced rear outer dual wheels twice for corrosion forming under the clear coat around the valve stem hole
-ZB8 tailgate recall
-Coolant leak from back of head (plug leaking)
-Oil leak from back of valve cover and rocker box
-Front center caps replaced for making a constant “clicking” sound while moving. New center caps make the same noise so this remains unresolved
- Lower bumper grill replaced due to cracks / splitting where parking sensors insert
- Coolant Bottle and coolant level sensor replaced
- EGR cooler replaced
- Engine hood insulation replaced due to it sagging and wearing on valve cover. New one started sagging less than a year later
- Y43 emissions recall unresolved as of yet. Still waiting on sensor
- Coolant leak at Block Heater

Some of these required three or four trips to the dealership in order to have diagnostics and repairs made. I’m probably forgetting some things too.

Good lord! I don’t have the tire or wheel issue (I rotate my own and have a SRW). I’m gonna have to take a peek at those other items from your list…
My hood got replaced just 2 months ago from hail damage. It was at the dealerships body shop (The mechanics are okay, the body shop is messy), and they replaced my liner too. I’ll keep on eye on it for sagging and wear. Haven’t had DEF issues at all. I do think my truck regens too often, but that’s mostly my use case.

What prompted the coolant bottle, level sensor, and the EGR cooler to be replaced?

Constant slow loss of coolant and no real sign of where it was going. I’m on my third oil change and each of my oil analysis at the time I changed it showed signs of moderate potassium and some silicon so they thought the EGR cooler might be leaching slowly. IMG_4393.jpeg

Crazy how much the oil analysis helps. I have one on this truck so far and my first one had nothing compared to your first…
So the EGR cooler was suspect and you took it to the dealer and complained your way to a new one? Or did they accept the OA readings as the proof?

Here’s the first oil analysis on mine. Also an HO…

I think the combination of coolant loss and the oil analysis helped to reinforce the decision to make the change. They tested the old one after it was removed and couldn’t find a leak, however that’s when it was cold. Could have been a minor leak when it got hot. Not sure but we’ll see what the next oil analysis shows. I’m going to pull a sample at 5k and see where it’s at.

It’s not a major repair, but it’ll require draining the coolant.

Nope no draining the system required just put a shop vac on the coolant tank and remove the block heater plug and reinstall. You wont loose any coolant if done right. I have done it this way for years for many brands no issue started doing it decades ago with tractors and implements in the fields so we did not have to clean up any spills lol. Same goes for replacing the oil drain plug.

I like that. If they give me any grief about warranty repair I’ll just do that and do it myself. Thanks!
