2022 Aisin Failure Tracking Sheet

I did a little research and it sounds like Minnesota’s lemon law requires manufacturers to refund or replace a vehicle if it isn’t repaired within 30 business days. I think I’m going to send Ram a written notice stating my intent to hold them accountable to the law if they can’t get my truck repaired in time.

I spoke to the dealer today about the CSN 71A which my truck is a part of, they ordered parts last Tuesday and he told me today they are on backorder???? backorder for a freakin snap ring?????
My truck is still working fine but I'm leaving for a 2 month trip on Oct. 5th pulling a 44' Toy hauler Fifth Wheel and I would have liked to have the recall done before that... the truck has 16,500 miles on it currently and so far so good, I just hope it doesn't let me down on this trip.....
Did they give you an ETA for the parts?

Hey Folks;
Found this forum, unfortunately, because my truck has ALL of these symptoms. Made it home from a trip in 5th gear and am now trying to schedule service. Dealers in my area (SW Colorado) are all looking at November (45 days from now). For those of you that have been into service, any suggestions on dealerships anywhere that have a sooner service time? Thanks!
Forgot to mention I can add your truck to the tracking spreadsheet for this problem. I just need some basic info from you on the truck itself.

No idea and now that the parts factorys are on strike who knows, I’ve been waiting 8 months on the parts for the grid heater recall

Hello,

Please send us a PM, our team would be happy to assist you further on retaining the grid heater relay. Thank you

My local dealer has the grid heater relay parts ordered and I'm on a waiting list for them to get parts.
I also went to the dealer I purchased from 150 miles away and they have the parts ordered as well.
I got a call from the Ram case manager today as well regarding the K1 Snap Ring CSN issue and was informed parts are supposed to be available October 18th (which I will be in the middle of a 2 month trip pulling a fifth wheel trailer across the US)
It appears RAM needs to get parts to the dealers. I even got a postcard from RAM reminding me that I have not yet had the Grid Heater relay recall performed yet, yeah, no Sh!t, I've been waiting 8 months, maybe if Ram could get out the parts I could get it done...

Have you been in contact with the dealerships recently? The grid heater relay parts are pretty readily available, my dealer had multiple ones in stock. Despite being on their list and then having parts I wasn’t contacted, but when I went in for the Y43 they told me they had plenty of relays… but I had already swapped it out.

Last week

So, I hate to be the party crasher, but in an effort to be as transparent and forthcoming as possible with the data I collect on this transmission issue, I now have been informed of the possibility of at least 2 Aisin K1 failures in the past two weeks that have occurred in trucks not identified under the Customer satisfaction notice 71A.
I had some fear that the initial 5,440 trucks they referenced might have been too narrow a field. Looks like that may indeed be the case. I’ll report back as I find out more. In the meantime, if your truck fails, or if you get a CSN 71A notice and have your truck repaired, I would like to get the data from your truck and add that info to the tracking spreadsheet. I appreciate everyone’s input and help with this.

more to come…

I got a call from The case manager yesterday (Ram Customer Care) they informed me that the parts should be available October 18th for the CSN 71A for my truck, well that's awesome but I will be 2 weeks into a 2 month long trip to Wyoming, Utah, and Arizona pulling a 44' Toy hauler ...... hopefully it doesn't let me down on this trip, I have towing insurance for the truck and trailer if it does and I'll try to find someone to move the trailer for me from campground to campground and I'll rent a car to get around, I looked into renting a 3500 truck but the costs looks to be around $300 \ day and I'm sure RAM won't cover it.
I hate to have to worry about this during the trip, I've been trying to get Dealers to look at it for months but of coarse got the ole "we can't do anything until it fails" hopefully all my worrying is for nothing and the truck continues to perform fine until I get back, this will be the 4th trip for the truck out West this year so hopefully she makes one more. :)

Refresh my memory: how many miles on your truck currently and how many miles will this trip encompass?

So do you want me to lie at this point, or give you my honest opinion? ….
I don’t think you’ll make it.

22,000 would put you over the highest known failure mileage on my spreadsheet. There are reports of ones failing at higher mileage, but I don’t have any way to contact those people as they have reported through NHTSA.

If I were in your shoes, I would be delaying the trip until after the 71A work could be completed. But I commend you for your willingness to press on despite the odds.

What is the average mileage, and standard deviation, at time of failure on your tracker?

Well I'm not going to delay or cancel the trip, it if goes down, I'll figure something out, we've been planning this trip for too long and my wife had to take a leave of absence to make it work.
How many total vehicles were manufactured during this timeframe vs. the ones that have failed, there could very well be hundreds of trucks out there still working with a lot higher mileage that have had no issues, maybe we should be looking or asking members that have trucks built during this time frame and still running just because 22,000 is the highest mileage you have seen fail could there be lots more out there that haven't failed?
I admit it's a concern but I hope I have a contingency plan in place, I will say and I will make it very public to RAM and other social media sources, in the last 7 years I have purchased 8 brand new Stellatus \ Chrysler brand vehicles but with the way RAM has handled this whole $hitshow it will probably be my last unless they really step up to the plate and get these issues corrected.
I will be contacting dealers in the area where I'll be staying during the trip (assuming I get that far) to see if they have any parts for the CSN 71A and can get me in... It really sucks to have a $112,000 truck that I worked hard to obtain along with a new Fifth Wheel Toy Hauler and in retirement the truck can't be trusted.
I know I may be whining, there have been a lot of members here that have been let down with the Aisin failure while on vacation or at inopportune times, I just hope I'm not one of them :)

I’m absolutely certain there are thousands out there built in your timeframe (and other timeframes throughout 2022 production) that are running fine and have demonstrated no failures.

My comment is based off a “best guess” or a “hunch”. I hope I don’t have to say this but i obviously do indeed hope you make it back without any hiccups.

I’m merely guessing based on what I’ve seen. The vast majority of the K1’s I documented failed at or below the 5,000 mile mark. When you start getting into the upper mileage bracket, you’re in a much smaller “club”. I’m borrowing this chart from @Redforeman ‘s data analysis of my information over on the Cummins Forum thread. Looking at that data I'd have no problem with a full send on a 6K mile vacation. Stuff still happens, but the odds are much lower.

Only one way to find out!

Sorry @Steve_Cornell but you’re going to be the Guinea pig this time!

I’m more concerned with the fact I just found out there have been two trucks recently with k1 failures who were not identified under CSN 71A. Doesn’t sound like the analysis was fully conclusive. I hope I’m wrong.
