Sorry but this is not true. Going forward the center of gravity shifts rearward giving the front wheels less traction and more to the rear wheels. If it was true, all 2wd trucks would have been front wheel drive.
I love the discussion too.
Yes equipping the 4wd with the same good set of tires will take it farther than the 2wd, no arguing this, but it appears there are guys here with 4wd trucks that will hit the 4x4 button soon as they hit gravel or when the 1st snowflake flies

I almost never use my 4wd but have also tested the this theory, if your wheels are slipping you wont be having enough inertia to loose traction in the front from weight shifting…. The other huge factor is weight, your rear axle has much less weight on it so you lose traction much faster i have had locked rwd and it was nowhere near as capable as an unlocked 4wd

This is hilarious that someone is actually making the argument 2wd "with good tires (lmao)" is better, or as capable off road as 4wd.

Shearing the front TCase output off made for a ****ty rest of the night for me before.
Need 4 and almost 4lo for at least one of the trail heads just to get to the lot to unload the crawler near me.

All things being equal there is no argument that 4x4 is superior to 4x2 on an average vehicle in virtually every off-road situation. That is not even worthy of a debate.
There is quite a significant amount of evidence to suggest that inexperienced drivers unnecessarily shift into 4x4 immediately when venturing off pavement. I personally feel this is a poor decision since it detaches the driver more from the available traction and inhibits their learning. In the late 80s and early 90s I learned to wheel with bald street tires, no lift, no lockers, etc. and let me tell you...we got really good at judging what could and could not be done. Years later when we began lifting, locking and running MTs, these additional options complimented our already well developed skill-set.
To this day I always head off into the forest in 2WD and easily pass through most minor obstacles. If I require 4x4 that is my next logical option. If that will not get me through my next step it to engage my front locker. The final step is my winch. I also carry MaxTrax and use them at different times for different reasons. I encourage more folks to spend more time off-road in 2WD but be smart and have additional options to fall back on...like 4x4, etc.

i’ll kick him bc i had a 2wd f250 that would get stuck everywhere, sand, dew on grass basically anything, it’s nice being able to get around the ranch without following the truck with a tractor

I’ll second this because I had a 2wd tundra work truck. I got stuck in wet grass on a flat field.
