Can you post a photo of the relay? I would like to compare if you don’t mind.Took delivery of my truck April 7.. Built Feb 28. There is NO tape on the relay. Who knows? Maybe they went to a different relay. Looks like the previous posted photos.

There is no tape on mine and it's Recalled. The words say the recall ended when they introduced tape . There has to be tape somewhere by the relay. If not then I may not comprehend reading as well as I thought.I had posted in one of these threads that the wording of the document from Ram was a little hard to determine what they were talking about. The way I read it, it almost sounded like the tape Was the cause of the fire? Maybe they used a flammable tape instead of a heat resistant type? Just speculation of course but the wording was suspect.

The suspect period began August 5, 2020, when production of Ram 3500 vehicles equipped with the Relay began, and ended on January 8, 2021 when FCA US LLC ("FCA US") introduced protective tape into production.
Highly unlikely a short in the control wires would activate the relay. Would blow a fuse first. I guess we will know more when the “fix” comes out the end of the month.I wonder if the short is happening between the control wires. That would cause the relay to close and activate the grid heater. I bet the relay isn’t stout enough to handle the current for long periods of time. That would cause overheating and the fire risk.
Did it end when the tape was introduced or was the tape introduced during that period? You could read it both ways. They did not word it well. "If" the tape was introduced after that would indicate that the tape is the fix, yet the truck posted above that was fixed has no tape?
Just offering another view point since none of it makes any sense and FCA has not been very clear on what the problem is. They originally said shorted relay, then the whole tape thing came into the picture.

Didn’t throw a code?I just unwired the power to mine. Truck was built in 11/2020. Between “it’s not an issue” and “might catch fire and burn your house down” I don’t feel super confident having it wired in. It’s warm enough out now I’m not gonna need the grid heater for a bit anyway, better safe than sorry I guess.

Nope. As far as I can tell there is no feedback (amp switch) for the ecm to tell if the heater is actually drawing. I left the little two wire plug installed on the relay itself, just disconnected the main power coming off the passenger side battery. Just drove for 45 mins and had no issuesDidn’t throw a code?
Good to knowThe battery monitor is on a negative post on the opposite side. I disconnected mine the same. You have to fast start the truck. If you short press the start button and the temperature is below the threshold the grid heater will activate. The ECM will store a code if the voltage doesn't drop enough. On the third time, the check engine light will come on.
Yes sir there is. Go to recall.mopar.com. Type in your VIN in the text field that says “See if your VIN has been affected”. It will pull up the recall and all of your info is there. It will include the problem, the remedy, and the status. It will indicate parts are available in the status section.Is there a Dodge Ram site that describes what you said about parts being available. I need to send it to my dealer.
