2021 RAM 2500 6.4 CAMSHAFT PROBLEM

1st, I’m glad to be talking with you. That accident was unreal. 2nd sorry to here about both your trucks, you have a lot of patience.
So, don’t know if u have lemon law or not, but I bought a brand new Denali in 2019, had the cam tick in it 400 miles, then at 800 started sounding like diesel. I took it in both times plus many other issues, leaking rear window 3 times, electrical bugs, etc. Called Lemon Law Services, attorney listen, got motor rebuild sheets, etc he stated to me it was going to be 6-8 months before we settled, however he was sure he could get me back 30%-50% of money back and be able to keep the truck, trade, sell when settled. So approx 7 months later settlement reached in high side, signed everything trade that Denali on a new Ram limited. Couldn’t be happier, it might be an option if u can do Lemon Law. Once again, glad u r still with us.

Thank you. I'm glad to be here talking with everyone on this great forum. I do believe that if I had been in the half ton that I traded in the outcome would have not turned out well. I also believe the man from above was riding with me. They say I may have my truck back tomorrow. I am going to put some miles on it. If everything is ok then I will be happy. If not I will go another route. I spent over 30 years in dealer fixed operations for both GM and Dodge. I saw quite a few Lemon Laws not turn out well for the customer. I will give my truck a chance. There are also some well qualified techs at some dealers. I have heard the one working on my truck is supposed to be very good.

Getting where I am not happy. This is no way to bad mouth the service advisor. He has done a awesome job. He can only go by what the tech and parts department tell him. The long block arrived at the dealership parts department late in the day on October 7th. I went to the dealership on Tuesday October 12, 2021 to check status of the truck. The advisor says it should be ready on the 14th or 15th. On the 15th the advisor says in a email that the truck should be ready late in the day on the 16th. On the 16th the advisor tells me the gaskets have not made it in yet. I hope Ram Cares is looking at this. I want to know when these parts were ordered. Since parts are hard to get right now this could just be the way it is. If the parts were not ordered until much later the dealership and I are going to have a conversation.

After getting the engine replaced it still has a rough idle at times along with poor fuel economy. I filled up the truck and drove it 89 miles over several days. I went and filled up again and it took 12 gallons of gas. That was driving about 75 percent city and 25 percent highway. I drive this truck like an old lady. I have put 1600 miles on the new motor and when I check the oil I see metal flakes in the oil on the dipstick. The truck is back in the shop as I am writing this. It has been there for two weeks and has not been looked at yet. I remember the days when I worked in dealership service departments this would have been considered a recheck and would take priority. This truck only has 6000 miles on it. I bought it on April 1, 2021 and it has been in the shop a total of 6 weeks.

Have you actually contacted ramcares? Supposedly they can escalate things on your behalf.

They know about it. I don't think Chrysler wants to mess with it anymore. I believe they realize they have spent there set aside warranty expense on this truck. Before I retired I was a General Motors and Dodge Parts Manager. They closed my case as soon I picked up the truck when the engine was put in it. We were right in the middle of negotiations on how to compensate me for my troubles when the engine was put in.

Have you asked them to prove that the ENTIRE engine was replaced? They aren't doing shady things and just swapping everything from yours onto a new block and heads? (looking at you oil pump....) The chances of this happening without a common denominator is slim (albeit disturbing)

You need more than just the motor replaced. ANYTING that the oil flows thru should have been replaced. Trying to flush out the oil lines, oil cooler, etc, WILL NOT clear everything out.

I'd be contacting a lemon lawyer and see about returning it or getting the truck replaced.

Been there done that.

The dealership called me and asked me to come and ride with the technician. I went there yesterday morning and we took a ride. I showed him all of the problems that I am having. To each concern that I showed him he stated that I had some legit concerns. He kept saying that's not right to each concern. He said that he was going to download the computer data to Chrysler and let them look at it. He was also concerned about the fuel mileage that I showed him during the drive. We drove several miles and there was no gain on the Lie-O-Meter. It actually went down a little as we drove. He is also going to check for the metal flakes that I saw in the oil. We are making progress. I purchased this truck on April 1, 2021 and so far it has spent over six weeks in the shop. I am in a position right now that I need a truck.
