2021 HO SRW Limited Air Assist Sway?

Gents. I have a 500 mile brand new 2021 Limited 3500 HO single rear wheel, mega cab air assist truck. I ordered in January and it finally arrived last month. Question. Does anyone have an issue with driving this specific suspension setup at higher speeds? When driving and changing lanes the rear end of the truck is delayed and it puts an unsettling feeling in your stomach. Lets say you are going 60mph and move the steering wheel back and forth quickly then stop with the steering wheel centered the rear of the truck still continues to wiggle for a couple seconds. I've had four buddies who haul with me and they own two rams (16, 20), 18 Duramax, 20 Limited F-350. They all drove and could not believe how it handled and said the would not tow with it. Two diesel techs drove and put the keys down saying its not safe (probably overexaggerating)? As a passenger you can feel the sway in any seat of the truck. I put a 11k bumper pull trailer and skid steer on it hoping to see a change in drivability but nothing. In fact I would say it was compounded because the once the steering wheel is straight the rear reacts which causes the trailer to sway which then the trailer sway moves back to rear to the steering wheel. I put that same trailer and skid on a 2020 Limited F-350 to take a drive and it was like driving with nothing behind it. The night before the same setup was behind my 2001 Cummins and rode perfect (just justifying that this trailer was properly loaded). Dealer told me its a characteristic of the truck combined with side wall flex of the TransForce tires. The Director admitted it felt awful and pulled it right into the shop to put on the lift. They found nothing wrong and then admitted he only drives 1500's. I've put 86,000 miles on my old 16 Cummins with the same tire and tire size and never had an issue with the three sets so I don't by the sidewall flex theory. Swapped wheels with another truck drove it and no change just to confirm.

I have searched and cannot find anything. It is so odd and bad feeling. Hopefully this other dealer will find something because if not I will have to sell.

As you can tell I have exhausted a lot of avenues and its been in Rams possession for 27 of the 29 days since I bought it. Currently it's at another Ram location and I hope to get an update today. Any input or suggestions would be appreciated.

PS. Here is the kicker. The original dealer told me they drove another 3500 HO SRW Air Assist truck but CC LB and it did the exact thing. Again, admits it feels awful and unsettling but "it's a characteristic". I was trying to get over there to drive it but they "sold it" before I could get over there. I would assume if two similar trucks are on the same lot then others exist hence why I am writing this long winded post. Hoping for a solution because I don't truly like the Ford and nor does the wife but I need a truck and need to place an order now for one if there is no resolution......

I haven’t experienced anything like that with my 3500 although mine is configured slightly different (SRW CC SB W/ air suspension) Mine feels rock steady at any speed. Hopefully your dealer can sort it out; good luck!

Sounds like possibly the air springs could be acting like a single line system vs adjusting separately. Just a thought, but that’s what comes to mind.

That's what I was thinking.

Thanks. Just looking to hear that some are steady and it is not a "characteristic" of these trucks. I ordered and never drove one with exact setup prior to ordering but to hear people saying theirs are rock steady helps. Right now the 2nd dealer has ordered a pump. We will wait till the 24thish when the part arrives to go on to the next step. Any input and replies would be helpful. Thanks!

Make sure tire pressures are right. Don't ask how I know. I had an older 2500 with normal suspension and could not keep it on the road at freeways speeds. An extra 10 psi in the rear completely cured it. Since your suspension is primarily leaf springs I doubt the air is your problem. Try the simple stuff first. Good luck

I suspect the techs tried/checked tire pressures(here I go ASSUMING) and were looking at air system, hence the compressor order. Remember the days when air shocks were the rage? Single fill systems absolutely created this very scenario where loaded side would transfer to the unloaded side and severely affect handling. Not sure what pressure our bag systems have in them normally but if a component is bad, when trying to auto adjust this very well could happen. You ARE CORRECT, K.I.S.S. first.

When I initially took delivery I was sitting at 101, 100, 98, 99 on all four corners. Pulled over on the side of the road hoping that was it and went to 65/80 with zero change in drivability. I'll update with more when I get it. Hoping it is solvable.

Your tires had 100psi in them from the dealer?

This isnt the same dealer "fixing" the problm is it?

They all come that way from the factory, unfortunately the dealer during pdi is supposed to check the pressures but most don't. Mine were all between 91-98 and I put them all at 65psi.

Dealer "prep" usually just means washing the truck with a dirty rag.

Most have reported the tires at 90PSI+ which is how the plant sends them out for transport.

That is crazy! Good info though, that'll be the first thing i check when i pick mine up.

Mine were all at 80, but still too high.

My tires were all over the map when I picked it up at the dealer. By the time I got home I thought I would need dental work. Not only that, but to add insult to injury, my rear axle was 3/4 quart low. Obviously all I got was a car wash by some kid. Must have been a short guy because the roof was still dirty. LOL

FWIW, I haven't had any handling issues but I did pull the stock tires at 500 miles and before I towed anything.

There was another thread not long ago about unsettling feeling; though he noted it while towing.
A tire swap with his other Ram corrected the issue.

While I haven't noticed this, I do find my truck likes to wander a bit. Have to pay close attention or I'll find myself drifting.

I ditched the stock tires and installed Terra Grappler G2’s

I swapped the entire setup with my 01 HO which is running an H2 wheel and Nitto's and no change. Engineer said originally tire sidewall flex was the issue and once I swapped and it was still there it became a characteristic of the truck. Right now it is still at the 2nd dealer waiting on part. Not confident in the whole thing and will be placing an order this week on another one to give Ram one more shot. This has been a rough one.

I have a 20 my 3500 srw with air assist and i have noticed none of this behavior. Over 5000 miles towing a fifth wheel and probably as much towing a fairly heavy boat.
Truck ride is firm and very similar to my old 2500 cc 13 only a touch smoother.
