She did pretty good for a green engine. Will fill her up and hand calculate it tomorrow. Mostly interstate 65-75mph.

Congrats! Most 2500 owners aren't concerned with MPG. However, a few of us are interested. Our trucks will never obtain high MPG as they were built for power and work. Around town, I get 13.5 to 15mpg. My highway is 17-19.2mpg. Towing is 8.5-10.5mpg depending upon terrain, wind, and speed.

Sure mpg is important, especially if you tow long distances (200+ miles) and your truck has a smaller fuel tank. Our magic number is 250 miles to our campsite that we tow to 3-4 times a year. I would rather make that trip without having to navigate a fuel island if possible.

300 of 500 miles of break-in are done, anxious to she how she does pulling our TT.

May want to look into the larger aftermarket tanks. I may get one just to avoid the pumps

Yeah, I've heard they take anywhere from 7500 up to 20k miles to break in completely but never sure whose number to go by. I know on gas engines they usually say 500 miles but opinions vary there as well. 14.8 sounds decent for a brand new truck.

You get that kind of mileage with a 6.4? That sounds better than what some of the 1500s get! That's great.

14.8 hand calc...New engine, really too soon to benchmark mpg
Thats about what I saw on my first tank. It jumped about 1 MPG on the next tank, and another on the next. Averaged 16.5 on the last tank on my ride home from picking it up. Averaged 75-80 the whole way. I think I averaged 71MPH for 1200 miles, that included time for 2 fuel stops, one for lunch and a conference call as well.

I'm hopeful then. All I have to go by is a 600 mile round trip with half of it being mountains and getting 13. Mine has 4.10s so expect it to be 10% less mpg but if gets up to 15, I would be happy.

I have 4:10's as well. My route home from picking the truck up was Rt81, which is far from a flat road. I havent checked my fuel economy since, as it is always mixed driving. Around town, and lots of traffic both ways to work.

Also, not sure how much of an impact 87 v 89 has on the 6.4 mpg. Dealer probably filled up with 87. If I ran 91 in the 7.3 I would see about a 1-1.5 mpg improvement, not enough for me to run except when towing.

16 on highway at 70 and 13.5 overall, it was better before the 325/65r18s.

Well, the other car that we have that gets all of the use averages about 25 mpg combined. I guess when I replace that in a couple of years, I'll just get a car that gets about 40 to make up the difference for the truck. Easy solution!
