2020 DPF Filter Help

Could use some help troubleshooting what seems like a dpf issue.

Towed my 5th wheel 1400 miles 2 weeks ago, no issues. Been here for that time and definitely have done some shorter drives but also 1-2 good highway drives while here.

Popped CEL p2459 earlier, and saw it was also in a Regen at that time. Drove it and let it finish and cleared the code. Figured maybe I interrupted a couple during shorter drives here and didn’t notice.

Just went out to test that theory and drove it pretty hard for 25 miles and I’m back to nearly 25% dpf filter. What gives?

It has newer fuel filters (3k miles), fresh oil before the trip and a new fleet guard air filter from Genos right before the trip also.

We are supposed to pack up and leave and drive 1400 miles home in 2 days.

I’d do the drive home and see if it clears the DPF, it should. Some Archoil 6400 might also help, if you can find it before driving home.

I can’t unfortunately looked and closest in store is 2hrs each way so I’m going to try it once I’m home if this persists.

The towing alone is great for the DPF.

Even shortly after towing I’ve seen it indicate 25% pretty quick. They don’t like slow driving, and empty highway driving isn’t always fast at cleaning them (I’ve had it take 100+ miles to see a DPF gauge reduction at 70-85mph).

Interesting okay thanks for the info, this is my first diesel and only had it a few months. Haven’t really used it to drive around always use my gasser.

It worried me to see it regen to 0 then climb right back to just under the 25% mark so fast. I’ll put it to work Friday with the 5th wheel and hope it’s happy!

Soot based regens always seemed to show soot on the DPF gauge faster afterwards for me.

While I agree with not over thinking things, I believe it’s good practice if you own a truck with emissions systems on them to monitor Regen frequency. I noticed my regens trending closer together one time, turns out I had switched gas stations to get cheaper fuel. Normally I use the same place, that place with cheaper fuel may have had a higher amount of biodiesel blend - not sure. Went back to the place I normally fuel at and my truck eventually went back to it’s normal regen frequency. It’s easy to do, reset my trip meter every time I have an auto regen and tell Siri to leave a note.

Yeah, I have not watched it or payed it any attention before the CEL popped. But now I wish I had at least seen what was happening leading up to that some.

Just to close the loop on this, at least for now - towed home 1400 miles. No regen seen, dpf at 0.

If your average speed was above 58 you definitely make 1400 miles without a regen.

Yeah, and no issues with anything after the CEL.. I think I must have just unknowingly interrupted a regen over and over with a handful of short trips which is highly unusual for me in this truck.
