planning on connecting some accessories to the AUX ports, etc. and just to be safe, was hoping to disconnnect the battery(ies) before starting.
went out there and that drivers side battery has 3 terminals on it. i started to disconnect all 3 and decide to just wait and ask if thats the right way to do it.
researched some posts, saw some stuff where folks had issues with the cars fritzing out, antitheft code requests, etc. after disconnecting batteries, et
figured id ask, whats the best way to disconnect the battery to more safely work on electronics, disconnecting terminals, plugs?
see image of my battery connections.
best practice for doing this?

Take the neg cable off each battery.

The radio will reset and take quite some time to bring all the systems back up. Otherwise there's no harm in doing so.

I'm curious though. You poked around the amplifier to relieve the upfitter jumper connector under the dash and I think disconnected some plugs there, and didn't disco the batteries?

If you're just plugging wires into the upfitter connectors, there's no power to them until you press an AUX button and they're also fused.

Are the two places I circled in red the only ones that need to be disconnected? Or do I disconnect where they actually 20210418_085111.jpgconnect to the battery terminals (circled in yellow)?

Leave the cover on the red terminals on the left and remove the negative (black) at the top of the IBS and secure it away from the battery terminals. For diesel trucks, you also must remove the Negative cable at the battery terminal on the passenger side battery.

If the black makes contact with another ground, it's the same electrically and no harm no foul. If (+)Red meets ground before both batteries (diesel) are disconnected, bad juju.

If the IBS is disconnected, it has to relearn the battery type and other info and takes 5 key cycles with 8 or more hours between starts.

You should also charge and jump at the top side of the IBS or engine/chassis ground.

Thanks for the reply. I disconnected both positive and negative terminals on both batteries when I removed the steering wheel airbag. No issues with any relearning of functiona when buttoned back up.
