2019 Ram 2500 Tailgate Hinge Replacement

When you drill it you only go about a 1/8" you will feel it when you hit the shaft. And BP blaster and used that extension where the taillight goes in. Just work it back and forth a little bit at a time while spraying it a little at a time.
I do have a plan on how to permanently fix this. Just gotta get the time.
thanks for the picture. keep me posted on your permanent fix when you get there. I really appreciate this information. have a great Christmas and happy new year to you.

letting you know that worked Wonderfull. 30 minute fix. best its worked in years. I left the tailgate on, did not use the socket set and removed the top part of the dampener shock. I moved tailgate up and down as I sprayed the PB blaster into the holes. Thanks again

not sure how you would get it tapped with the rod going all the way through the sleeve. unless you could tack weld one into place or thread a small plate and weld that into place then Zerk the plate.

There are press in zerk fittings. I’ve used them at work for a project we had. Can’t remember what vendor we got them from…

So just an update. I took the oppertunity today to see if I could get that hinge loose seeing as the replacement part is not something I feel like doing so before I take it to a body shop to remove the tac welds from the body panel etc... I drilled a small hole with the comment in mind of adding a zerc grease fitting after if I could get it loose. After about 25 min no luck wouldnt budge, so I figured I'll drill another small hole cause what do I have to loose at this point in hopes I could get more oil in. Well that seemed to do it slowly but surely I worked it back and forth with a prybar and using a wrench, adding lots of liquid wrench... I got it moving. It's completely freed up after about 45 min of messing around. I was going to tap the holes for zercs but I can confirm the side wall of that cylinder isn't going to hold much maybe 1 thread of a m6 or 1/4. I would say I'd have to weld the zerc on... I'm now waiting on the gas strut I had to order as it was toast too but the hing is free and tailgate is atleast able to go up and down. I'll figure out the zerc when I get the strut. As for the two holes I will either hit it With a weld if I don't tap it or maybe just something I can remove later to add oil if it happens again. Also there's pic for the strut part number if anyone is interested. ( 68362518AA) pics won't upload... I'll do it when I get in the house
