2019 Ram 2500 6.4 squeal at start up / Chirping Noise - merged threads

My truck still waiting shipping date, but looked at exhaust diagram, in previous years this noise came from flex coupler in y pipe. If you have a friend that can help , someone get under vehicle press foot against flex pipe and start the vehicle and see if changing pressure at that point makes any difference

So I just ordered a 23 6.4 and found this thread after the fact. Is the chirping noise really a major concern and prevent the vehicle from lasting 20+ years and 200K miles? Or should I scrap my order and jump to a 2024 Chevy they just announced
Seems to be a small flaw in the design. Annoying for sure, if you look up cold start videos on YouTube, you will hear it almost in every one. Even the TRX. Now that I know that, it doesn’t bother me as much. Love my truck tho!

Not an issue, but it is annoying. I talked to a local exhaust shop about cutting off the factory y pipe and putting in a h pipe and duals. Just need to pick out mufflers I want. They quoted 650 plus mufflers which is not bad for dual exhaust on a big truck. Hopefully losing the y pipe will make the chirp go away. If it doesn't then hopefully it becomes loud enough I don't hear it lol

It's a heat/cold issue at the merger pipe after the cats. Once warmed up, it goes away.
If you can find someone who can make a better merger pipe, good luck. Otherwise we live with it.

I honestly can't believe the engineers at FCA/Stellantis thought the pipe design was a good idea. No other factory vehicle I've ever heard with a 2 into 1 exhaust makes sounds like that. Even cheap eBay y pipes don't do it. I like the sound of duals though so there will be no merge. Gotta get some noise out of this V8!

Mine makes the noise as well. I bought it with 7,700 miles on it, heard it during the test drive, read enough to not be concerned. Would I like to get rid of the noise? Yes. Does it bother me? No. Absolutely love the truck, this drivetrain is nothing short of spectacular.

Sometimes it's gone when warm, sometimes it's gone on warm starts, other times it seems to linger. Not going to put much thought into it, if I see someone come up with a solution then I'll look at that, otherwise just going to enjoy the truck.

My opinion:

It’s not a squeal. It’s just the way this trucks exhaust sounds. It’s a weird exhaust collector pulse sound. It can’t be fixed. They’re all the same. It’s not a “problem”
I read through most of this 16 page thread. I appreciate how consistent and patient you've been on this subject.

The tech and associated electronics will put all these vehicles in the wrecking yard long before 20+ years ticks by, IMO

I've owned my truck for not quite 2 months, so no firsthand knowledge of how long they last. :) But from my reading, quite a bit of it at this point, the forum posts and other media is 99.9% about "what's this chirp and how do I get rid of it", what I didn't see was "I have that hemi chirp and my engine/lifters/cam failed". So my read on the situation is that we can all run these engines up over 200,000 miles, but in my case that only takes around 8 years, not 20.

More than 40 years at less than 5k annually for my hunting/fishing trucks….

Only 5k a year! In that case, how's that 1982 Dodge with a 318 running?

Gave a 2011 Raptor S-Crew with 38k and a tiny check for this PW last Sept…got more for that Ford than I paid for it 10 years previous.
I need to edit my post, meant to say 1982, not 1992. Don't trust my math obviously.

That's the flip side to buying high end vehicles, especially HD trucks or specialty trucks like the Raptor. The price increases have been so fast and dramatic that the resale on the old truck makes that purchase a really good deal in hindsight. No way to know if it will be the same on trucks we buy now, but when was the last time we saw a big price drop on these sorts of vehicles?

Anything V8 and low milage will bring premium in a future of tiny turbo-motors.. they were hangry for that 6.2 for sure, had all the dealers who saw it in a bidding war and the one who got it eventually had it sold before they got their hands on it.

I have a 2022, I took it in for a recall and asked them to listen to the chirping on cold start up. Their explanation is that it is normal and it has something to do with the catalytic converter. Normal and dont worry about it. Wasnt really the answer I was looking for but hopefully that will be the end of that conversation. I hope this will help someone out.

762FMJ, did you ever fully replace the exhaust and did it eliminate the noise?
