2019 Aisin shifting is weird and poor - why?

If I come to a stop sign with at a high decelerating rate and I don't make a full stop (rolling stop) then I jump on the throttle = transmission "slams" into gear abruptly. And this condition gets worst when the stop and go is uphill !!

@ST3500 I had that same problem until the service department installed the TCM update for TSB 21-001-20.

Here us what the update fixes:

Hey @Dialed-In, I looked at your invoice. They installed 3 updates.

1. Updated the Power Control Module (PCM) from version 52401932ad to version 52401932ag per TSB 18-052-19. I believe that is the latest version of PCM software currently available.
2. Updated the Transmission Control Module (TCM) from version 68288452AK to version 68475153AD per TSB 21-001-20. I believe that is the latest version of TCM software currently available.
3. Updated the Air Suspension Control Module (ASCM) from version A68354198AJ to version A68354198AL per Rapid Response Transmittal (RRT) 19-057. I believe that is the latest version of ASCM software currently available.

Based on what I know, I believe you now have the latest PCM, TCM, and ASCM software currently available.

Which post discussed this being an older version of software?

Thanks for the response! After further looking over the paperwork I realized my confusion. I was thinking the ASCM update was for the transmission. It does appear to be the latest updates were installed. Our cold start "40*F" first start in the morning seems worse now than before though. Surging and rough idle enough you can really feel it sitting in the seat. Hopefully we don't have another issue starting! Only 6k miles on it.

I noticed the starts are a little rougher after the update too.

Thestuarts: thank you for your feedback ! :)

Until it becomes a real nuisance: I will then take it in to have the latest tranny software uploaded.
Personally, the least I take the truck to the dealer: the better it is. I'm a maniac when it comes to work attitude, I just can't stand "by the hour" licensed mechanics work ethic.

They're not all by the hour. Many do piece work so they get paid book time and if they finish quicker they make more. THAT can be an incentive for some to take shortcuts. I do admit I don't know how bring backs affect their actual pay.

I can tell you that in my line of work, when I was paid as a tech based on revenue and not hours billed, I busted my ass to give 110% and not only finish sooner, but with accuracy. I could then either take some extra time off or kick out another project and make more money.

Ended up at dealer for separate issue but while it was there I asked for the Aisin update and specifically requested the tsb numbers provided here. I had the same clunky low speed and soft/flaring shift complaint as others have mentioned. See attached for the dealer fix. They state the fix is a TCM flash now, and that the TSB numbers I gave them didn’t apply. Who knows...

As for the important part... how it drives now. I only have 5 miles on it and I requested a quick learn but not sure if they did it. It shifts MUCH firmer now. I’m used to built trans in big power street cars with firm shifting and it’s not quite to that point but you definitely know when it goes up a gear now. Much more direct feeling now, more connected, and much less low speed clunk. I only heard it clunk going from drive to reverse once. Overall very happy with the truck now as that was my last issue to get solved.

I had the exact same reaction. The Aisin upshifts more firmly, and there is no 2-1 slam as it dowshifts into first gear too soon. The only clunk I've heard is similar to yours; it clunks occasionally when going into reverse, especially if I don't wait a few seconds after coming to a stop.

I still have a few issues with the truck, but I will keep on topic with this thread.

Yeah I’d say overall a great improvement

That's good to hear. Maybe with this and the (rumored) forthcoming ECM/TCM updates you guys (and me soon) will finally get the trans you deserve.
The service performed on my truck was a TCM software update. It’s out and available. Click the pic in my first post for the details.

Right, I was referring to the post by @NordicNews that an TCM/ECM married flash was coming soon.

Called my dealer today. They said they don’t have the updated TCM flashs

Also no updates on the ECM

Hopefully if you guys got the flash that’s a great set up but they told me they have nothing

Our transmission flash seems better after some miles. The cold start ECM flash seems to have made things worse. Very rough and almost sounds like no pilot injection intermittently while idling warming up. Like a "12 valve tune " or high rail pressure. Again only at idle when cold and surges as well. It's back at the dealer tonight so they can try to replicate in ther morning.

Is there any news on the latest update that is suppose to be released by the end of Q1. I realize that I am a few weeks early but if I take the truck in to the dealer would like to get the latest and greatest update.

Thanks Mark. I will probably check with the dealer at the end of April. I only have about 200 miles on the truck and I bought it in November....I need to drive it more.

Ram Cares - can you please confirm that there is an issue with this problem and if so - could you please provide the exact software version so I could present it to my dealer in Houston ?! Thanks
