DPF full

I have a 2022 Ram 2500 with 59000 miles on it. Last week went to drive the truck, started it up and briefly saw the notice Regen, continue driving but right after that message I got a CEL and the message "exhaust filter full" see dealer, power reduced. I had not looked at my DPF screen so I do not know where I was at. Of course the dealer came back with the DPF needs to be replaced! Struggling a bit with it as it is not cheap and at 59000 it should not fail. So going back and forth with the dealer but doesn't seem like there is much help from that side. Have a case with customer care but have been down that road before. My struggle is it doesn't seem the truck did what it was supposed to do. My understanding is that you get the first message that a regen is happening and if I were checking codes would be P1451... if that did not work I should get a CEL but the filter should not be full but getting there and I could still have a dealer service to hopefully fix... the third one is the full one with power reduced, then all bets are off and it will be getting replaced. My truck did not do that, straight to full, power reduced. That will be my argument and we will see.

No matter what happens I would like to keep a closer watch on my DPF... I have AlfaOBD that I used on my 2015 1500. Wondering if it will be able to monitor, real time, the sensor pressure, temp, and percent full of the DPF. If so, might get an Android tablet and keep connected while truck is in use

Hate to say it, but depending on where you live I know what way I’d be spending that amount of cash on if the DPF has to be replaced.
Diet with standard tune . Then not worry about DPF again …

How do you use your truck? Grocery getter? Long drives at 75mph? Towing heavy loads?

all of the above... but that one bothers me. The truck is setup to do regens if necessary (active) and if driving a long way or pulling heavy (passive). Should be able to handle it. I would guess most people driving them are not just towing. When this gets resolved I will spend more time watching the gauge for sure. Still didn't work right, should have gotten the 2nd notice before going directly to see dealer power reduced

Get a security module bypass cable and use Alpha OBD for a stationary region. Then run a tank with archoil 6400 D, preferably at interstate speed or towing and see how it does.

do you use Archoil on a regular basis?

Some do with 6500. The 6400 is an occasional additive for DPF cleaning.

I only put about 6500 miles a year on. I run 6400 on the first tank going south each year towing my heavy fifth wheel, and 6500 in every tank. So far so good.

I’ve been running 6500 every tank since I read it on this forum. It does help I think. These trucks aren’t like the pre DPF you’ve got to keep eye on DPF gauge and get in a good highway drive every once in a while or tow heavy. A friend put his on a diet from factory with standard tune and hasn’t looked back.

thanks for all the info... the question was about monitoring some of the sensors and DPF state real time. What do you guys use? Can AlfaOBD work?

I use an Edge monitor. Not sure about Alfa. Here's a sample:

I run the 6500D every tank and 6400D once a year. Knock on wood I haven’t had any regen issues to date but would be interested in a stock tune delete if it weren’t for the inevitable ticking issue.

Hey! My 2021 Ram 2500 (104k miles) threw these codes:
  • P242F (DPF full / regen lockout)
  • P0299 (underboost)
  • P2071 (intake tuning valve stuck open)
Truck still runs perfectly normal — full power, no lag, no noises, no DEF/SCR issues. The DPF gauge hit 100% right before I took it in, so I’m pretty sure a regen failed and it locked out. Dealer tried a regen but said it “won’t allow it,” then quoted me over $8,400 to replace:
  • Turbo actuator
  • Both boost tubes
  • Entire DPF
This seems crazy, especially with zero drivability symptoms. My understanding is that a failed or aborted regen can trigger all three codes.
So I’m asking the group, What’s the correct way to get a forced/manual regen done on a 2019+ Ram after a lockout?

Can an independent shop do it?
Do I need a specific scanner for 19+ trucks?
Trying to avoid replacing parts that might not be bad. Any help appreciated.

Has anyone here personally used a Launch X431 V+ 5.0 / PRO3S (with FCA gateway bypass if needed) to:
  1. Clear/override a P242F regen lockout, and
  2. Successfully complete a forced/manual regen on a 2019–2024 Ram 2500/3500 6.7?
If yes, can you share:
  • Exact model and software version
  • The menu path you used (service function name)
  • Whether soot % and DPF pressure actually dropped afterward
Looking for confirmed success stories, not “it should work on paper.” Thanks!

Yes, an independent shop can do it. Not sure about any warranty coverage though.

I also use Archoil 6500 every tank and 6400D every 5K, I don't leave home without a bottle of 6400 in the back seat door storage pocket, I also thought the DPF was covered under Federal emissions warranty for 5 years or 60K
