I certainly would rather have the cp3, never an issue with my 2016 or 2008 rams. But I am on my third round with the cp4 on my '19. Yes went down twice. I run commercially pulling a 40' hotshot with the updated cp4. Knock on wood, no problems so far, 20,000 miles on pump.
I have had mine go bad twice now, under warranty. First I was reimbursed about $2500 in rental fees. Second, Wait for this! I was reimbursed $7500 in rental and motel fees. don't forget to add in the full tank of fuel they will drain for you also. All I can say is they did step up for the expenses.
You are right this is a "Black eye" for dodge ram and cummins. However I do think they have discovered that. Now we will see what the new ones will bring out. I have heard they will be reverting back to cp3's but that's a rumor as far as I know.
