Ram puck fit issue

Hey All I picked up a 21 3500 from the dealer yesterday with the factory gooseneck 5th wheel prep package. Went to install the chain pucks today and the passanger side fits no issue but the driver side seems to have a bolt preventing the puck from turning far enough to drop the pin. The “bolt” is on the tailgate side of the puck housing. Looked underneath and don’t see any way to remove it. First picture shows the correct fitting on the passanger side and the second has the bolt circled in red. Any suggestions?

I just walked out and looked at my 21. They are the same as yours, but I’ve not had a problem dropping my B&w safety chain hooks in either side.

These are the Ram brand from the dealer. Realized I didn’t put that in the initial thread. Here are a couple more pictures. That’s all the further that chain puck will turn and it’s about qtr turn from being able to get the pin to drop. You can see on the puck where it’s hitting that bolt where the paint is wore off from trying to muscle it to turn.

I see what your talking about. almost makes me think that the casting on the safety chain hold down is off. Are they side specific by chance?

Thought they might be side specific at first too but neither fit on that driver side but both fit the passenger puck hole. Might just have to take it back to the dealer and see what they think.

Update. After 2 trips to the dealer they are completely stumped. The sleeve that is preventing the puck from turning is for the rear suspension bolt so no cutting it. They’ve sent off the pictures to Mopar so we shall see.

Is there a vertical gap between the puck base and the bolt? have you tried lifting up on the chain puck as you turn?

No gap. Once the puck is dropped in and turned about 1/8th of a turn it is tight without any movement. We tried several pucks at the dealership thinking I just had a bad batch of pucks and no luck. Unfortunately they did not have any other 21’s on the lot with the tow package installed to look at.

Try going to an aftermarket supplier and ask to borrow a chain hook of a different brand and see if they fit

Interesting... don't all 5th wheel puck systems have to use that hole including the Mopar/Curt one? Wonder why they don't hit it.

I'm not sure if it is just the angle of the picture, but that second pic looks like there is excess metal (circled in Blue) around the edge that could be throwing everything off.
