On my last diesel I was pulling a 22‘ lake boat. Wasn’t worried anout payload or anything.
Now I’m soon upgrading frok a 22’ airstream to a 33’ 10k Airstream with 1000lb hitch weight.
I just don’t understand why they derate the truck when its capable of 12k?
With my 10k limit I’m at 2k payload.
Maybe because the 3500 SRW is 12,300 and has more capacity in the springs that are used?
Cheby 2500 is leaf sprung and available with GVWR up to 11,400.
Ferd will sell you a 10K GVWR derated leaf sprung F350.
That all seems more logical to me that claiming the 2500 with coils/locating bar is "more capable" than its pesky sticker just because it has axles rated higher.
I've heard the "coils are just as good, trains use them..." and agree - if they're rated for the load they are just as good. However, the fact remains that RAM currently only offers the coil sprung 2500 at a maximum rating of 10K GVWR.
I think it's better to ask, "Why doesn't RAM offer a 3500 derated to 10K GVWR to meet CDL and/or tag restrictions?"
