Correct shocks for 3500 dually rear air auto leveling

Nice! Thanks for taking the time to do that...exactly what I would do if I were going to lift my truck a bit! I'm happy running the 255/80 17 tires on the stock Alcoas (which I like) so lifting is not really on my agenda. Plus my 5th wheel as currently setup sits quite level with good clearance at the bed of the truck etc. so I don't want to go "nose high" on the trailer when towing. I am installing the Bilstein dual steering stabilizer tomorrow and will likely go with the .50" Thuren front springs and 5100s. I don't feel that I really need the pricey adjustable track bar with only 1/2 lift, but still undecided about that...
Thanks again for all the advice and help... I will update at some point once I get this set up installed just to share what I've learned.
BTW... just noticing, are you at all concerned about using what seems to be a stock size tire as a spare? I managed to stuff a 255/80 tire in the spare location but it was tight!

With a DRW you have 2 spares at all times! Haha

Good catch though. Short answer, no. I would run the smaller spare on the front in the case of a flat.

I have 5100's on my air-ride DRW. Below is the part number. My truck is lifted 2" in the rear but the shocks are listed as being compatible with stock height trucks.

How is that working out? I ask because I’m also thinking of installing shocks that say are not for the rear leveling air sys.

I had a fairly long email conversation with a tech. rep. from Bilstein...very informative and helpful. He stated that they may very well expand their line of shocks to include pre 2019 rear air assist trucks, but for now, they have nothing specifically for those earlier trucks (like my '15).
According to him, the spring rates on the air assist and standard leaf spring trucks are different enough (not surprising) that they cannot recommend the same shock for both applications.
Could you do it anyway and get away with it? Yes, as long as the amount of compression and extension travel was adequate. This is in reference to STOCK suspension (i.e. NO lift at all).
Problem is that the internal valving and damping rate is tuned for specific vehicle and suspension parameters and could compromise the ride quality.
The shocks that gimmie is using I don't believe would work on pre '19s due to possible different mounting locations and different shock length required. Again, as per the Bilstein tech guy...
Anyway, I'm gonna play it "safe" and just go with brand new factory OEMs for the rear and the correct Bilstein 4600s for the front.

I think i installed the same 5100 shocks from shock surplus as gimmie11s after one of my stock units blew out. No issues noted with the replacements. Appeared to be same length travel as stock and we have not noticed any changes good or bad in ride quality.

I installed 5100 Bilsteins on the rear of my 2017 Dually 3500 with Max tow package. 410 rear etc. NOT air lift.... Had to go with the 4600 series for the front. OEM fir 4600... just the stock crap front OEM ones failed miserably at 14000 miles. Might have been helped along by the truly terrible stock Nexen tires that failed with huge bubbles under the tread at 9800 miles. One was seriously blown and collapsed during takeoff.
All six tires were replaced with Michelins...zero issues on those at 18500 miles. $1500 tires and another $800 worth of shocks...sheesh
The 5100 did say for 0-1" lift. The 4600 fronts were stock height. Truck was/is a little jiggly riding but i lowered the tire pressuere 5 psi on front and rear to 75f/65r and it is much better.

I posted this request for info on a reply to another thread but thought I should start my own thread here...
I am trying to find the correct part number for Bilstein shocks (either 4600 or 5100) front and rear. The problem is making sure the rear shocks are the right ones since my truck (see sig) has rear auto air leveling.
The 4600s I found "seemed" to be correct, but there is a disclaimer for the rear shocks (part (24-238533) on the Bilstein website saying "without air leveling suspension".
I measured the rear shocks from center of mounting eyelet top to bottom right at 23" as the truck sits empty. There is always some amount of air in the bags since it is part of the normal suspension operation, not just for supporting heavy loads.
The length of the Bilsteins seem to be right as far as overall length, but for some reason they are saying they won't work, no explanation as to why?
Anybody deal with this and find a solution i.e. the correct part number? Appreciate any feedback...Thanks,

I went with KYB gas adjust on the rear and Bilstien 4600 on the front. My truck is an 18 with the same specs as yours. Works good so far. Only had them for 2 months.
