AC/Heater problem

Late August I noticed that the heater control would turn on the AC at start even if it was not on during shutdown. Kind of lost its memory so to speak. Comes on every start up. Now that it is colder (40 at night ) it is unnecessary to use the AC. I did bite the bullet and installed a known good heater control. No dice. For those of you who know this canbus stuff, does the control communicate with the cluster or go straight to the TIPM.

Defrost is not on. Can I reset the system somehow?
