thinking about trading my 2019 6.7 and getting a 6.4 with a 8 speed. Wanna see if any of you guys are getting for mpg towing with a 6.4 and 6.7, ill be towing a sxs (x3 max on single axle trailer) weighing around 3-4k I would think a boat that wait will yield same results. Reason i ask is I will be storing my toy hauler during the season and evey other trip will just tow the sxs on single axle and swap trailers at storage. But if the mpg isn't worth it. I had a 09 2500hd with 6.0 6 speed and 4.56 gears and it was very thirsty and would get hot pulling 10k through the mountains.

If you are concerned about fuel economy, stick with what you have. The best I have been able to get out of my 2019 6.4 is 14.5 with nothing behind it. I also have a 2020 6.7 and I get right around 18 with no appreciable drop off towing around 8k.

I get 12-13 around town and 14-15 on road trips without a trailer. 6.4L, 3.73s and 35”s (calibrated)
I get 10-11 pulling 6500lb, depending on speed.
My trailer is 2000lb empty and it’s nearly unnoticeable when empty. I haven’t pulled the empty trailer enough to calculate mpg, but I imagine still 12mpg no problem

I won't be that worried about mpg if im saving a couple hundred a month on payments on top of how much def I use. I haven't towed this combo yet with my 6.7. I just spent last month building trailer, and just got picked up the new tires for trailer tonight. if I don't get much better than what people end up posting in this. I may end up with a 6 4, 8 speed. I already got a good idea on what a 6.4 will get hauling my crawler and my toy hauler. And its better than 09 chevy 6.0 with 4.56 gears and tune.

Just my opinion but that single 3500lb axle doesn’t look like enough for that trailer
Also, the question is where are you towing? That is a HUGE factor in your fuel consumption. Historically, when I've pulled through the flats of Indiana, FL, etc I'll get massively better economy than when I pull locally here in South Western PA, West Virginia, etc.
My boat trailer combo is between 5 and 6k, I haven't weighed it. It's a double axle trailer. I pulled it this week with the new truck for the first time. At 70 mph over fairly flat terrain, I got 10 mpg for the 160 mile trip. This was with the 4.10 axle.
I'll be towing it from northern AZ to Southern California (glamis) so some hills and all that. Ill be check wheel bearings every trip by just touching the hub to see how hot they get. If anything ill swap a heavier axle in it. Havnt got it on a scale yet but im guessing im right around 3klb loaded. I also bought some 215/75 14 to keep bearing revolutions down. It has 195/75 14 on it in pic
In my 2020 2500 I get about 12 in town (lots of stop and go)
Unloaded at 55 on the Hwy I can get close to 20
Unloaded at 75 on interstate 14 to 15
Towing a 7K travel trailer I get 10 to 11 (I don't usually go over 65 when towing)

Thats plenty, that trailer is about 500-600lbs and the sxs is not more than 12-1500 lbs id imagine

You’re correct. I looked it up. That SXS is far lighter than I imagined. Carry on.
A lot of plastic cladding and .065 or .090 wall tubing goes into them. Nothing compared to fullsize rigs.
More like trailer around 900 lbs and sxs around 2100. Just weighed it. Came in at 3000lb loaded and 500lb tongue weight.

My 2019 6.4 with 3.73's gets around 9-10 mpg towing a 10ft trailer with a Kawasaki Teryx 4 on it. This was towing Reno to Arizona and towing at 75 mph didn't help. Doesn't take much for the mileage to tank but it tows well.
