I had a 2014 Ram sport 5.7 Hemi that was the quickest, fastest and drove like a sports car on glue, Raced regularly and only ever got beat once by a ford that I believe may have had a turbo. Anyway recently traded it in for a 2021 2500 Black 6.4. I've never had a 2500 so I have nothing to compare it to but this truck to me is a dog. My 5.7 would eat it up. Mine is stock except 35x12.50 20 in rims, that are the exact same height as the stock wheels and tires. Am I asking to much out of the 2500 because of the more weight it needs to carry. 8 speed Limited edition. Don't beat me up, just curious if I need a tuner to improve, seems very sluggish at shift points. I'm use to shifting harder into the next gear. Average about 11.5 mpg in town Az.

35's, 2k more weight (lots more un-sprung weight for that matter), different gearing, IFS vs solid front axle, camshaft profile, etc. The half ton is more of a car with a bed. The 2500 is a true truck - slow and meant for work. I doubt a tuner would make much difference. Be sure your truck is programmed for the new tire size as it affects shift points and the overall gear ratio of the truck.

I dont think your stock tires were as tall or as wide as the new 35s.

And you probably have 3.73 gears.
So yea, it's going to be slow.
My Power Wagon came with 33s which I think is the tallest tire they put on the 2500s.
I now have 35s. But mine also came with 4.10 gears. So it does get up a move for a 7K lb truck.

i wonder if you hook up a 5000lbs to both which will feel better? but I agree the 6.4 in a 2500/3500 is a dog and won't ever be mistaken for a street racer

I know it's hard to believe but the 275/70r18s stock tires or the same sized non-PW offroad tires AND the 285/60r20s on the Night Edition and Limited are actually bigger than the PowerWagon's stock 285/70r17s. Both Ram and Jeep keep screwing the PW and Rubi crowd with their sub 33" stock tires.

I agree partly with your statement above but not seeing your 35s being the same height as a stock setup, plus you have a wider contact Patch causing drag. my other cars are a subaru impreza and a honda CRV so not power houses and I still say my 6.4 is a dog :). I have driven a lot of new 6.4's and they all feel the same (I have never driven a 6.4 with the 6speed only 8speed) my biggest mistake was driving my neighbor's new 7.3 gasser. One of my good buddies who I go to Moab with all the time has a Ford 3.5 and he really leaves me for dead and gets better mpg while doing it. I for one am excited to see how the new I6 pans out.

The difference is only a 1/2" in height.

So his new 35's are 1 1/2" taller than his stock 33.5" tires.
And with 3.73 gears, that changes the final drive raito.

on paper that is correct, but depending on actual brand of tires a 285/60-20 can be pretty close to some 35's. Stock PW on the truck are only 31.6" tall. That is the number that RAM has inputed for them as well. I know this because my AEV Snap shows that when you scroll through the screen it shows what the trucks gear ratio is, the tire height and psi thresholds.

Actually its 32.7" X 11.5 calculated on paper
Yea, what's on paper is one size, what it actually measured at a specific tire pressure is amother.
My BFG 35s say 34.5 on paper. But I run them at 37 psi and the come out to around 33.5 calculated based on measured distance traveled for one revolution when on the truck.

But for general purpose, you can go by whats on paper to figure out what the difference will be to get you close to what you should expect for a real world difference.

Just saw a video on youtube last night talking about the twin turbo I6 possibly for '23.
They have 2 versions.
A SO to replace the 5.7. A HO to replace the 6.4
They did a comparison with the 5.7 and 6.4 in the Grand Cherokee. But that 6.4 motor has more power/torque than our 6.4.
They did talk briefly about the I6 going in the trucks.

Guys, I'm only asking if the 6.4 is suppose to be equivalent to the 5.7 weight for cubic inch. I know I was spoiled with the ram sport 5.7 and I know the weight difference. I was just hoping to still have the same snap in 6.4 as the 5.7. I was mistaken. I love this truck, I was just hoping someone found some aftermarket option, like K&N, Cat Back that will make it a little more lively. I've never had a 2500, always been 1500 4x4's. As for the 35's, yes the width will cause drag but height maybe a 1/2" taller. I still have the stock wheels, I'll pull one out this weekend and measure the circumference for piece of mind. Thanks for the comments. Again, I'm not putting this 2500 down just have to get use to driving different.

Measure the circumference with the wheel on the truck. If you take it off, it will be larger with no weight on it.
Gear ratio also makes a big difference in acceleration.
