CP4 to CP-ISB21S3 (revised CP3) change for 2021 6.7L Diesel Trucks -- Merged Threads

They will Never tell you to pound sand, they will simply let it die out quietly.
I know that, I was simply trying to make a point. I'm not throwing the towel in just yet. I'll wait until the end of July. After that I'd say we're screwed. The sad part is this is the first truck I truly wanted to keep.

While I agree that it's very possible that FCA is playing the long game with this, I don't think it's possible to get swept under the rug. The associate from RamCares already noted there was a service solution incoming, and their discovery period just ended 3 weeks ago. I would like answers ASAP as much as everybody else, but sadly I can't snap my fingers to make it so. There are already multiple lawsuits making their way through the courts, so FCA (likely along with pressure from Cummins) won't want to be associated with that. Plus they have already switched back to the CP3, which again hurts their chances of winning the case in court. Time will tell but honestly at this point I wouldn't expect to hear anything till August at some point. I'm personally going to give it till black friday, at which point I'll be hoping that S&S or II have their kits on sale and will pick one up then. I'm hoping that FCA takes care of us as for me this is a test to how loyal I'll be to the brand moving forward.

Hmmm Ram Cares……. aren’t they the ones that peep on the fire to cool it down and ran away….into the corporate mist?

Don't remember if it's been discussed, but wouldn't the 21'+ MY pump just bolt on to the 19-20 MY?
You'd like to think so. I'm hopeful Chrysler/FCA Stellanis-Whoever owns the place now would think of that. I'm sure the engineers have a replacement kit to the new CP3ish pump for the 21+. It would be the only prctical thing to do rather then keep putting blow up pumps on 19-20's and the chance of another 10K repair bill.

My money at this point is on the "service solution" being the all-in-one dimple CP4 kit referenced in the last TSB. Before, a tech had to order piecemeal parts. Now it's in a convenient "service solution".

Perhaps time to take advantage of rediculous trade in values and ditch these things. And Ram altogether. That's what sends the clearest message. I bought a Diesel because it's what I wanted, not what I needed. So it means nothing to me to ditch if they don't make it right.

I agree 100%. This by far is the best RAM I have had since 1998. Out of the (8) CTD's I have owned, this one has been the best pulling/towing machine yet. The most expensive too. I cringe at the thought of having to modify it myself to make it as dependable as the last 7. I'd trade if I could, but no equity in this truck and no trucks in stock to mention that I can find. I read the NHTSB complaints on the 19-20 and it was not good. One peep in Vegas was out of pocket 18K or so for repairs UNDER warranty. Mine has not thrown a rod thru the block, so I guess the CP4 is the only boogie man left under the hood.

Don't know about you folks, but I've built the truck that I wanted, added stuff to it that I needed. Not gonna throw it out just for the pump that may or may not blow up. If RAM makes CP4 a recall - great. Otherwise I've got warranty. When it runs out I'll swap a CP3 in it. Yes I'll be pissed, but I'll be more than 3k out of pocket dumping this truck to get a 21 or 22 MY.

These comments do nothing for the cause to get ram to do the right thing. It only encourages them to do nothing

I think it shows how much we want our trucks fixed right. People comment on my truck almost daily, and while I tell them how much I like it, I also tell them of this problem and that we've been told a fix is in the works. I've also heard that you can't buy the amount of advertising word of mouth will get you. So if they do nothing, I'm sure I'm not alone in saying, this will be my last FCA product and I won't be quiet about it.

Hello everyone, we would like to relay the latest update to you here regarding your concerns with the CP4 pump. There is currently a service solution in progress for all 2019- 2020MY vehicles equipped with CP4 high pressure pump. Further updates will be announced here as soon as more information becomes available. In the meantime, please know that our team remains available to assist in resolving serviceable vehicle concerns via private messages. Thank you,

Kathryn

My truck is currently in the shop under warranty waiting for a kit to arrive to replace the blown CP4 after 12000. What are they replacing just another CP4 that may fail again. Or is there a retro kit or anything on the new install to prevent that from happening again

It will be another glitter bomb pump. Dimple, CP4.2, symetrical cam.

The "kit" referenced in this TSB and likely the "service solution" I was talking about:

Anyone have any idea how the newer “symmetrical” cp.4 pumps are holding up? Just wondering if they are fairing any better than the early models. I have a 2020 2500 built in November. About 7,000 miles on it at this point.

They are holding up just about the same as the Mexican border

Have we heard of any confirmed failures with the newer 4.2?

There has been a few. Posted who knows where in this thread or one of the others. I've talked with a guy on FB here in Phoenix that had one go on him and confirmed through him he had the dimple. I'm not sure why it wouldn't still fail. The symmetrical cam has a lower ramp rate, therefore less aggressive, but it still doesn't solve the stick and twist un-keyed lifter problem or the way a failed CP4 distributes the failure throughout the system rather than stopping at the pump like a CP3/CP-ISB21S3.
