TPMS (TIS) sensors for trailer (SOLVED - see 1st post) aka TTPMS - Trailer TPMS

My first instincts are:
1. Bad connection to the TTPMS receiver near the spare
2. Faled TTPMS receiver
3. Bad connection to the TIM (loose connector from vibration
4. Failed TIM
5. Wire damage to the harness from road debris

This screen shows up if you don't have a TIM and Receiver installed and enable the setting in AlfaOBD. When we were doing the experimentation to figure all of the things out, I jumpered the two connectors in the headliner since I didn't have the TIM yet. I did have the receiver, though. Once the BCM could talk to the receiver, the error went away.

Ill go back and pull the TTPMS receiver and make sure it’s dated correctly. The TIM was a pain in the tail so I’m hoping the TTPMS being loose is the problem. Thanks for the reply!!

Has anyone had any issues from their tire shop saying they won't fit their trailer rims? I have a 2017 Airstream and the tire shop just called and said the trailer TPMS sensors that came with my new 2021 2500 won't fit the rims? Seems like they should fit most if not all standard trailer tires.

They fit my 2020 Airstream just fine with the aluminum rims. They come with a few adapters.

Only downfall is they stick out quite a bit.

Hey everyone! As an update, I talked to the tire shop today and shared the doc at the above link. I also told them I talked to several others with the same set up as me and that it should work. They were able to get them in and set. The guy said they needed to use some other gaskets or something but they're in. About to head out now to pick up the trailer.

Before I pull the trigger on this, what is the max psi these sensor can handle as my camper tires are at 110 psi. Also has anyone set this up for a tri axle trailer? Did it work? Do you have a pic of the truck display?

Great information and thanks. My issue is that I have this system on my 2021, 3500. The problem is that the sensors for my RV wheels are too short for my rim thickness. My trailer has 16 inch aluminum. A tire dealership tried to install but the stem was too short. The sensors came with the truck from the factory. Ram Customer Support was not much help. They said this was the only sensor they had. Has anyone else had this issue?

Did the sensors on your NorthPoint come from Ram? I assume it has 16 inch aluminum wheels. I tried to have the sensors on my RV wheels and the tire dealership said the stems were too short to fit my rims.

Look at the link posted a few posts up from yours. The first picture should answer your questions.

My hauler has aluminum wheels also. my outer nuts would not fit either. luckily I'm a shop foreman at my machine shop and i took the nuts to work and machined them down shorter. the side of the nut that goes to the wheel has no threads so i removed that area.

Thanks so much for your information. It was very helpful. I thought that I was the only one that had this issue.

Installed my sensors today on my Grand Design 2800BH. Install was not too bad if you have a tire machine (mine's a NoMar manual unit). All you need to do is break the bead and then use a couple scraps of wood to push the tire down low enough to get in there with the new sensor (it has a LONG stem).

The biggest pain in the ass was the programming... first the screen that pops up has enough next next next stuff to drive you nuts and then when ready there is still a "Start" button, it does not mean ready to start... ask me how I know lol.

Tried programming multiple times but kept getting the double horn failed after getting to tire #4. Ended up moving the truck right beside the trailer and used a deflating gauge from my Jeep to ensure I dropped about 10 psi on a tire and then go find a beer... pretty much every time I managed to find where I last left my beer the horn on the truck would beep before I could take a sip (ah... so Ram uses the cameras to watch you while you do this lol). Then go to the next tire, deflate 10 Psi and scramble back to the beer. The trick was to deflate and WAIT... it can take quite a while before the horn beep.

Another tip, raise your stabilizers if they are down, it's pretty easy to really deflate the tires while messing around with this and all the weight of the trailer could end up on your jacks.

I only wish it did temperature... knowing my luck, the 2022 will have that feature.

Cheers
Tim

I HAVE 2019 RAMM 3500 DUALLY THAT HAS THE TPMS FOR THE TRUCK THAT IS CURRENTLY WORKING.
DO I STILL NEED TO ORDER THE TPMS RECIEVER AND TIM GATEWAY PART AND THE WIRING JUMPER PART???
OF COURSE I NEED THE SENSORS..

First, welcome to HDRams!

Second, please stop shouting in ALL CAPS.

Third, yes, you need the parts listed and also the 3 "programming" items to add the sales code as also listed in the first post.

AlfaOBD
KOAdTECH SGM bypass cable
OBDII reader

Couple of quick tidbits:

If you enable the TTPMS in AlfaOBD, and then you "Marry" a Tazar, the Trailer Settings (for brake/etc) disappear in the EVIC... However, if you unmarry the Tazar, and do a "Reboot", they come back.

2nd note - these sensors from TST were already in my trailer, when I bought it https://tsttruck.com/ and they (even though they're on the same frequency band as the RAM system) do not seem to want to pair with the TTPMS in the RAM. I tried to pair "tire 1" 3 times, gave up.

So, off to find RAM's TPMS sensors. Yay!
