Just curious what everyone does for early (break-in) maintenance.
Engine Oil change after 500 miles.
Early diff change?

I follow the maintenance schedule listed in the owners manual.

Ill be doing mine early. I just ordered my no-spill drain plug.
Had that on my last truck and loved it.
To drain oil, just throw a 5 gallon pail under the truck, screw in the drain tube.
No-spill

yah, put my drain valve on yesterday as well...

Why change the fluids early? A cummins won't break in till about 6000 miles. If not towing, might take longer. Is it just for peace of mind.. which is understandable, but might be a bit early until at least 50% of oil life.

Just trying to understand the reason.

For driving around town, which is most of what I do, I've always changed my oil and filter every 3000 miles for dino oil and 7000 miles for synthetic. One of my cars has always been driving highway so that gets changed ~ every 12,000 miles I believe (synthetic).

I've never had any issues with my motors following this regime.

Mine is a gasser. I just try to get the first one in by 1000 miles on any new vehicle so I can add a magnetic drain plug and know it’s got full synth/premium filter. Just another in a long line of OCD traits that, may be overkill, but give me peace of mind. #YMMV ;)

Yeah - something like that.
I also feel better getting the first load of manufacturing contaminants out - be they chemical or particle.
I've dissected some initial use oil filters - it surprising the bits of crud and metal in there.
Also had a close look at some diff oil after 500 miles full of little shards.

Plenty engines and gears do fine without it - but doing some early service gives me satisfaction.
