2022 Power Wagon Diesel - unconfirmed rumor

No such thing as full time 4x4. It's a 4 auto system (AWD) and I bet the TC will disconnect the front and go to 2wd mode if the clutch pack overheats. I'd love someone to actually take a TRX on a serious off-road trail going and test this.

This is where the Raptor wins out. It has both a gear and clutch driven TC and switches between the two depending on if you're in 4auto or 4hi/4lo.
Raptor can’t win. Because the exhaust sounds Fing awful.

I don’t think you guys can have your cake and eat it, too. Power wagon payload isn’t conducive to the Cummins and there is no need for the extra weight.

I think the 6.4L truck motor should get the 470/470 treatment that the 392 wrangler gets and call it done. Oh and larger gas tank.

I'd be more than happy with that too. A 40+ gallon tank would probably make me trade my PW in for another if I couldn't retro fit it on my current one.

The funny thing is the 1500 gas trucks have an optional 33 gallon tank while the PW only has 31. Wtf

The TRX is a full time 4wd. Probably better called AWD. There always power to the front wheels. It has no 2wd mode.

It does use clutches and has been found to overheat...but using the terrain select properly...it can do the job. Just have to be mindful of the clutches

They tested it with the Powerwagon. It went all the same places...just not with the same style of driving

I don't really want/need a Power Wagon Diesel but I sure would like to see a few power wagon type feature available on the diesel trucks. The "off road" package is kind of a joke. Lockers would be a nice option but that might be a problem with a truck that puts down 1000 lbft or torque? (Not sure what they are rated for) A winch would also be a nice touch but again the logistics of fitting it in a diesel with the current intercooler layout has some challenges.

A guy can hope though..

As many have said/done, if you want a diesel power wagon, buy a cummins truck and make your own. Would be more cost effective and more capable than any OEM offering anyway.

More cost effective?

I similarly equipped Cummins Laramie comes in at basically the same price as a PW. Now add all the PW or aftermarket bits. None of that will be covered under warranty. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt that you'll be doing all the labor yourself and that your time is cheap :p

I don't think you can get the 4.10 in the cummins or the 8 speed trans either.

It would be a sweet ass truck for sure, but definitely not more cost effective.

I'd say youre correct for many, if not most folks out there. A sly DIY guy, however, can certainly make it happen (I was able to add twin turbos and a 1000whp fuel system to my mustang for under $5k). Where there's a will, there's a way.

Also, you dont need 4.10s or 8 speeds to get you up and moving with 900-1000+ lb/ft torque. :)

None of it is my cup of tea to be honest, but hey... it's fun to talk about!

Heres another way to look at it.
1000 ft lbs of torque, locker axles. Good traction when locked in the rocks, what's the weakest link that's going to break?

So this was interesting… tried to order a 2021 Power Wagon 75th Anniversary today and the salesman tried to plug in the order and couldn’t. His GM told him they’re no longer taking 2021 orders, only 2022. But they can’

Here’s the interesting thing. Supposedly his system had a “Power Wagon Level 3” group that includes a diesel.

Yea, I got that list last week and meant to post it, thanks. The only cool thing is wireless CarPlay for the iPhone with UConnect 5.

Any knowledge of what may be different in Level 2? Or whether the floor console could be ordered without Level 3?

If they are going to offer the bucket seats in gray for 2022, that would be a big win in my book. Ram needs to announce the '22 colors and options. How can they expect customers to order a '22 when the dealer doesn't even know what's being offered.
