Roaring noise 2021 3500

So I didn't find anything on a search, but has anyone noticed a roaring almost like fans kicked on full, not towing anything, just driving through town? It reminds me of when dual fans kick on, on an older car. Or a massive ac system kicking in. There's actual resistance upon increased throttle, but then it just goes away. Anyone know what this is? Thanks

My 2021 3500 does that. It is the cooling fan engaging. My 2019 did the same.

It is a mechanical fan on the engine controlled by a clutch. No electricity needed. It does take a lot of horsepower to turn it.
Thanks. I'm very surprised it's not twin electric fans or something. My 06 tundra had similar cooling to this.

Copy that. Normal noise apparently. Thanks for the response

That's the difference between a toyota and a real truck , No electric fan can keep up with cooling on a engine of this size and horsepower. I know the guys with the duramax's ( me included ) were always hoping tp find a large electric fan setup because of overheating while pulling trailers . But the few that tried failed miserably with electric after it got hot outside and they put a trailer behind it.

Ok. Sure is a big amp draw I'm surprised they didn't use variable frequency drives for the fans. Thanks
I would be curious to why you have a large amp draw like that if you really believe its coming from the fans since there mechanical ? Wonder if you have another issue ?

Nah that was me typing without thinking. I was equating power draw from the engine with amp draw. However thinking about how the noise matches RPM's, it can really only be what has been described by everyone. A clutch driven fan coupled to the engine.

Also I just assumed that a 2021 truck had electric fan motors...

By the way just like my duramax truck my cummins fan kicks in hard when its cold sometimes before it even needs any cooling . I called the manufacturer on the duramax and they said yes when fluid is cold in clutch fan sometimes for less then a minute it will kick in from fluid drag. So you might have a little of that going on also.
