Cummins HO Squeaky Belt or Pulley

Ditto. Small amount of dielectric grease and no noise.

If it begins to squeak again, off the cliff she goes!

I did this over 2 months ago and not a single squeak or chirp since. My truck is a daily driver. This seems to be the best “fix” so far

Where did you put the grease on. Ribs or flat spot?

Ribbed side only. Applied a thick blob about the size of a nickel or quarter. Started the truck and let it run for less than a minute. It has worked like a champ so far. Prior to that the belt chirped after every start.

I have not had this problem yet with my Ram. I did have the issue with my Duramax. I put a Goodyear Gatorback belt on it with the cross ribbing on the pulley side. Never another noise. Still quiet today 75,000 miles later. Just a suggestion.

Did it last night. It was a cold morning and so far it seemed to have worked. Just a tiny tiny faint chirp I can barely hear now.

Great. I hope it continues to hide the sound for you. Make sure you get a little on the edges of the belt too. Good luck.

2 month squeak free update...

For anybody considering going the lemon route.. skip the arbitration and just get a lawyer. The attorney I contacted felt I had a very strong case but I thought the arbitration would be the quicker solution. Ended up being a complete joke.

Over 30 days down in 3 months of ownership. Replaced belt, idler/ crank pulley, fan bearing, stripped powder coat, etc.

Apparently Fca has zero regard for customer service and customer retention. Who cares that your brand new 60k+ truck squaks, it still gets you from point a to point b right?

Heres the fix I came up with... been sqeak/squeel free for a couple months now! IMG_5653(1).jpg

I took mine into the dealer a month or so ago for a squeaky belt/pulley. Dealer mechanic said there was no unusual noises heard when it was checked out. Kind of funny that I haven't heard that squeak since my visit to the dealership. Do you think they smeared the belt with some sort of gorilla snot and didn't say anything?

They might have put a dab of dielectric grease on it. I learned about the trick from someone who worked at a dealership in the past. Works like a charm.

You really showed them lol. A Bad dealer service department causes you to buy a death wobble machine. Good Luck.

OK, so my 2020 2500 has been in 4 times now. 1: replaced tensioner pulley 2: replaced belt 3: replaced alternator pulley 4: now the engineers are involved and say its the coating they put on the CRANK pulley that is the issue. In the shop now, they are going to pull off crank pulley sandblast it clean up and reinstall. I have a Lemon case started. only 5K miles.

Removing the paint from the crank pully has been tried before and I'm pretty sure STAR issued a notice to dealers to stop doing it.

Ok, so what is STAR? And like I said I have a case opened up and will be lemoning it out. Thanks for the feedback

A lemon case over an annoying sound? Good luck. I’ve heard that the crank pulley sandblast will fix the noise. Keep us posted.

So will a dab of dielectric grease.
That’s why there are lawyers. 4 times in the shop for the same issue qualifies for a lemon. I know it seems like a small issue but the last time the belt was changed if was worn out like it had 100k miles on it. And there was premature wear on the alternator pulley. I didn’t pay $80k to hear a chirp every day. So I hope you are wrong! I’ll let you guys know.

Service Technical Assistance Resource center.

Technicians input the vehicle problem in natural language to start a troubleshooting session, which narrows the problem with follow-up questions. The more difficult problems are handled by call center agents, who also use the application.

It starts as a STAR report, which becomes a STAR case, which becomes a Service Bulletin if there are enough cases to justify the repairs.

It would appear your symptoms are different than most who are not seeing that sort of wear that I've heard.

Perhaps STAR uses your truck as the source of truth to finally figure out the issue.

Please do report back, and if they issue a TSB, let everyone know.

Do you have a STAR case# you'd care to share?

It wasn't about "showing them" if anything they showed me. I lost a lot of money trading in a vehicle with less than 10k miles. It was about wiping my hands clean of a company that doesn't back the product or care about the customer enough to fix the issue in a timely manner. This has been going on for well over a year so there's no excuse.

It's bizarre to me how many of you have this attitude. I must have missed belt squeak on the list of standard features.. guess I'm just a Karen.
