Hello, just towed my 5th wheel with my 2020 3500 dually used tow haul mode when braking it seems to use some sort of engine brake assist is the normal. I liked it, is it rough on tranny?

Thanks, so the exhaust brake switch is used if your not towing, like heavy load on steep roads

The EB can be switched to Full on or Auto in either normal or Tow Haul.

In Tow haul, shift points are raised and EB is much more aggressive. It's by design.

The difference in EB function Auto vs ON is discussed in depth in several threads, but in essence, ON engages any time you lift throttle. Auto only engages when needed to control descent speed,

I run full ON all the time and use my right foot to control the EB.

If you have the 7" EVIC, you can set it up to show an EB Horsepower gauge. Not sure if that's available on the other screens.

ETA: Posted before responding to @DevilDodge, but TH does not automatically engage the EB. Keeping a trailer connected when it's been selected *should* keep it on but seems some trucks do, some don't. I think it's more to do with the current sensing in the trailer's brakes.

I know that my 2020 the tow/haul does not turn on the EB. I just have to turn EB on, and depending on terrain, I select either full or auto.

You dang guys are so smart, LOL thanks so much for the info. still finding new features on this truck every day. It is a beast, I love it. Thanks again

Same as Goose said, my 2020 3500 HO's tow/haul does not turn on the EB.

I run with the EB turned on all the time.
When running unloaded it is good to run the exhaust brake either full or auto. This keeps the Turbo clean and helps reduce EGR soot build-up as well. I'm told that running on auto (green light) does not affect mileage or DEF use. Full will use a little more DEF and I can't tell but some say about 1 mpg Hwy.

Calibrated tunes keep the exhaust brake on 100% of the time at whatever setting you choose.

Plus it sounds cool.

Yeah, it does sound bad ass. leaving from NC to Vero Bch on Monday morning. Are first big tow with the new truck, just wanted to get some more info before hitting the interstate. pulled it around town to get a little work on the 5th wheel RV and can tell it has a lot more power then the 2006 2500 5.9 we use to have. What a difference the 5.9 did a great job it didn't have exhaust brake. This new truck is awesome. Thanks again to all who responded, it helped a bunch
