So my truck arrived today and it is being prepared.......dealer shows a 398 dollar accessory charge when I didn't order accessories. He is saying the manufacturer back charges that or some nonsense citing nitrogen in the tires and tinting the side windows. Has anyone else seen this on their buy sheet?

Dealer addendums are the bane of the industry. They pay the tint guy $30 bucks to slap low grade BS on, fill the tires with cheap nitrogen, pretend to spray a "protectant" on the seats, maybe even add a gaudy pin stripe and wala, $1,500 to $4,000+ upcharge for a few bucks of Autozone garbage.

I can see sticking it to the customer of a dealer inventory vehicle and getting away with it.

You ordered the truck and you should have been asked if you wanted it. Unless you unwittingly agreed to it and if you didn't you shouldn't pay for it.
Did you have a written sales agreement or was it a handshake deal?

If it wasn't written I think they got ya'.

More like 90% at best, and that’s if they filled and purged at least 5 times. BUT, it’s probably still at 78% because most dealers just have the porters swap the valve caps as soon as the vehicles arrive.

I'm clueless so this may be a goofy question;. Why would they swap the valve stem caps?

It’s been reported by multiple people witnessing trucks being unloaded from the carrier, and the porters immediately change the black caps to the green caps, presumably without ever actually putting any nitrogen in the tires. The dealer then tells the customer that they are paying for the nitrogen filled tires as a dealer accessory, and they say that they automatically do this to all their vehicles.

@THC1 Report the dealer to the BBB for trying to scam you. You ordered your truck and should get it exactly how you ordered it without any addons.

Did they drain all the “regular” air out before they filled them with nitrogen?

I’ve had luck two times (chevy and Mazda) telling them that I simply do not want the nitrogen and door sill protectant or whatever add-ons. These were both dealer stock cars.
They usually reply that it’s already on the vehicle. Then I tell them to find me the exact same vehicle without it and get back to me. Then they just remove the charge. I have had them completely refuse to remove the charge (flashing third brake light add-on) and I walked away at a gmc dealer (and bought the above chevy)

Like the "theft deterrent glass" add-on? That's been my favorite!

Agreed, 100% BS !!!

It was referred to above, you signed a deal with the dealer for specific set of options. You can print a build sheet. You agreed on a price (Plus tax, title, and Doc fees). Doc fees are another that you need to look at closely. There is a reasonable amount, but it's relatively small. Tax and title are set fees. Some states have a legal limit on the Doc fee, while others don't. A quick search will show you the average Doc fee for your state.

I would call the dealership owner and have this discussion.

My salesman started the nitrogen and Lojack discussion with me when we were doing the buy sheet. He said "We do it to all of our vehicles before the customer takes possession.". I clearly told him that it would be a waste of nitrogen since the tires were getting switched out first and the Lojack would be thrown in their parking lot as I was driving away. And there was no way in hell that I was paying for any of it. He nodded and never mentioned it again.

It is all a scam to get a few more bucks from the customer.

'Air' is already almost 80% nitrogen... pretty sure another 20% isn't gonna make much of a difference...

This is why I spend so much time here. Thank you

@pkane For Grins, after getting my deal with the dealership I have bought many trucks from, I decided to see what a closer to me dealership would give me on trade prior to my order. First I had to wait a couple days for the numbers for the GM was out and he is the only one at this dealership that can access sale numbers for a FCA Affiliate Rewards member..... When they finally provided the number, Ironically they focused on the monthly payment as their sale tactic, BOLD monthly payments at the top and all based on hypothetical down money and such... First reason to walk away.
Reading down through the smaller print was the sale price of the truck, ironically (or on purpose) they didn't even quote the truck correctly based on Affiliate member and then the list of ad ons such as paint coating, interior protection, some BS theft crap and a few more... I chuckled as I got up to walk out, feeling bad for the kid and turned and said " This is no reflection on you and honestly if you would like, I will share with your GM how he just screwed you out of a potential sale"
"This is not my first rodeo, the sale price is not correct, these extra add ons are BS and you heard me say when I first sat down with you the other day, I don't play games, I buy what I order and no hidden dealer crap and my decisions are never based on monthly payment, they are based on the bottom line"

Ahh....the big city dealers around me ....three monkeys jump you before you close your door! They say ‘’how much can ya spend bi-weekly’’or now it’s’’how much per week’’.
WTF...as a farmer I get paid once or twice a year so weekly doesn’t mean $#!+ to me. Go to my small town dealership....here is the price period.

I hate that monthly payment crap they try to pull. We deal on the final price only or my business goes elsewhere.
