Purchased above described truck used on 3-13-21. Drove it once approx 500 miles when the following message appeared on the dashboard. " Exhaust system service required see dealer" The truck went into safe/ limp mode as a result. I drove it to the closest dealer ( Feldman Ram in Woodhaven Mi.) who tested the truck and indicated that the low pressure fuel pump needed to be replaced. The dealer replaced the pump and had my truck ready for pick up on 3-29-21. I received the same error code upon leaving the dealer and am now told that the high pressure fuel pump needs to be replaced and the part is on back order. Fast fwd 13 days and daily calls with both Ram care and the dealer and the part has still not been ordered. I started a star case and learned it was declined pending further information from the dealer. In the process I learned that the low pressure fuel pump was replaced in December 2020 ( less than 1,000 miles ago) and that there was another star case in February 2021 for some type of computer issue.

Any thoughts or direction would be more than appreciated! I'm getting nowhere with Ramcare or the dealer.

I see in your picture that the temperature is 37 degrees. Mine has problems like that when it is cold but goes away when it gets warmer. I have to keep driving though because time is money. They aren’t perfect all the time but mostly good in the long run. At 160,000 miles now and only two times at the dealership to reset limp mode, both butt cold days.

My recommendation is to find a rental car/truck that you like. You might need it for a while. FCA has been very slow to replace/repair high pressure fuel pumps, DEF pumps and other fuel system components due to parts being on back order. Its unacceptable. I just paid out of pocket to convert my 19 Ram 2500 high pressure fuel pump from a CP4 to a CP3. Good luck.

Thanks again, I have owned over a dozen Ford trucks without issue. This is my first Ram, literally drove it one time and it has been at the dealer for nearly one month with no end in site. I can't wait to give it a try but am discouraged to say the least.

How much did it cost? I may want to do the same.

$2600 plus $500 labor so $3100. I replaced my CP4 high pressure pump with a CP3 prior to having any issues with it, because once the CP4 fails it can foul up your entire fuel system which means your truck is down for 2-3 months for warranty repairs. If you haven’t already, search this forum regarding CP4 failures and Ram’s switch back to the CP3 for 2021.

The downside of paying out of pocket for an aftermarket CP3 conversion is the expense and it will void your warranty. I decided to do it because I really didn’t want to be without my truck for 2-3 months. Not everyone will find the conversion to be the best remedy for their situation.

Sounds like you got a bad apple but hopefully after this repair it will give you more satisfaction. They are great trucks but not without problems
