Hey all, just received my 2021 3500 Mega Cab dually. The truck will mainly be used to tow a 5th wheel trailer. With the 31 gallon tank not providing the range I need, I’m looking into adding a 50 gallon aux tank in the bed. Anyone know how this would affect the factory warranty? And if it does, is there a work around? Dealer installed, etc? Thanks!

Transfer pump or gravity feed? If your pumping it nothing to worry about if your doing the rds valve and gravity feeding it you will still be fine but they will see the stock filler tube cut for the rds valve.... i just put my new repurposed tank in a few hours ago i still have to plumb it and remove it to powdercoat it.... i had to modify an old 100gallon freight liner tank but its getting a quick disconnect fuel line so i can pull it out as needed and in winter months.... its going gravity feed dealer here said no issues when i had the old 64 gallon tank in

I was originally going to go with gravity feed. After doing some additional research, I’ve decided to go with a pump. Leaning towards the Titan Trekker 50 Gallon. Just don’t want to be surprised by a warranty issue down the road.

Why go pump?

I did a 50 gallon transfer flow with the pump and love it. Never have to do anything but fill it up. I have a short box and still easily haul my 5ver. The controller shows me the level of both tanks and keeps them the same so i always know what I have for fuel. I totally recommend it.

Thanks everyone. Had a 50 Titan Aux tank installed yesterday. Fits great. Looking at a 750 mile range while towing.

Hello, I have the exactly question that you had, I just got my 2021 3500 ram, and I'm looking for an extra tank 50 gallons and I worry about the warranty too, but I know that you can't use a "transfer tank" to fill your own vehicle because of DOT regulations, they only approve "gravity feed tanks" and that my main worry right now, because I'm thinking the dealer is going to avoid the warranty in case something happen.. so honestly I don't know what should I do now..... I'm really need a auxiliar tank right now...

Nothing illegal about filling your truck with a transfer tank the only thing thats illegal is using gravity feed on a gas truck

With the current warranty laws, modifying your vehicle only voids the warranty on the part you modified. Then they have to prove that your modification caused the original part to fail. What would you possibly be voiding, your filler tube warranty?

I've been using a 45 gallon, gravity feed Aux tank for the last 60,000 miles on a 2020 3500. Had absolutely no problems except for pulling into the fuel island. Going thru 70-80 gallons a day hurts the wallet pretty good. I've found that the gravity feeds at about the same rate as getting 8 miles to the gallon. Better MPG and the DTO climbs, worse MPG and it continues to drop ( just not as fast ). I usually run my main tank down under 1/2 and flip the valve at the tank. I wanted a physical valve so I would know when open or closed. I can't see any reason that the warranty would be affected. Only thing modified is the diesel filler tube down at the tank.
