2021 Stop Sale on certain diesels incoming (intake air heater relay). - Recall Y76 REFRESHED OCT 2021

Since it seems like a solution has been identified, when can we hope that the stop sale order is lifted?

Probably a while. If RAM is a scrupulous group, they'll make sure trucks on the road already are taken care of first, as they have already sold the trucks and they are not in custody/control of the manufacturer and therefor a bigger liability.

I thought the progression of "fixes" started at the factory, (which is already done), then progressed to dealer inventory, and finally end users schedule recall work. I think dealer inventory is prioritized because each dealer can claim the "Recall Floorplan Reimbursement Policy". That policy pays dealers per day per vehicle that they cannot sell due to a stop-sale. Essentially, FCA gets the dealer's inventory fixed so they don't have to pay as much allowance.

Here is the solid state relay.
I must be missing something. For the life of me, I cannot figure out what a protective tape will accomplish. I don't see anything near the relay that could cause a short either. Depending an the material maybe the tape would contain a fire? Guess I will know more when I take delivery this week.

They completely changed that design of the relay from the 4th gens. I was thinking it was the same.
I too was surprised the relay looked so different from my '17 3500. I wonder if you could swap them? Then again, I think the old style had a chance of "sticking on" too from what I've read so maybe this new style relay was an attempt to remedy that. Obviously didn't work though.

How are you able to take delivery? The recall is stop-sale, which stopped my pickup from being sold to me. It’s still sitting on the dealer lot.

Mine was built after January 8 (Feb 28). All trucks after that date had the tape installed at the factory.

The positive wire coming in to the relay has a flat strap that is exposed to the right and left of the 90degree turn. That could arc if something touches it to ground. That's about the only thing it could protect other than containing a fire in place. Most relays that are high amperage solid state have heat syncs. This does not. Unless they reduced the amp draw of the grid heater the relay is probably overheating.

Yes, seems problematic.

If that's the relay on the passenger side, that's WAY different than my 2020 which has a "traditional" round relay/solenoid with 4 posts on top.

I think there's more to this than a piece of tape. Lowest bidder component issue IMHO.

That is the relay on the passenger side. I disconnected the air intake and pulled it over to take the shot on my 2021.

I think you might be right. The remedy on NHTSA is showing that the dealer will install a "protective barrier". That could mean a small plastic divider or it could mean a roll of 3M electrical tape. Who knows? All I am hoping is that they get this done fast. I placed the order on November 2nd and have now been waiting for my new pickup for 5 months, 2 days, and 3 hours!

So I just got this recall notice through the “my Ram” app and when I called my dealer, they said not to worry about it until FCA tells me they have a fix. Said they haven’t had an known cases of any fires from this. Does anyone know if this is an issue with the relay itself, or (as mentioned somewhere earlier in this thread) an issue pertaining to the exposed bus bar connections? I park my truck in my garage all the time, should I just unwire this thing for peace of mind??

I thought I read somewhere (NHTSA) that there have been 3 fires. I will try to find the quote. It was not a forum post, it was something official.
