I like your truck and your payload. I think the 2500‘s are the perfect family BP vehicle. No normal family trailer needs more than 1200 tongue weight. I’m guessing you can pull 18k? Which is plenty. Comfy daily driver too.

Weighted on the CAT scale today, full 50 gal tank and my fat butt but otherwise empty. Total was 7420 lbs, so with a 11400 GVWR - 7420 = 3980 usable payload.

4234 - 3980 = 254. Which - yeah. My fat butt. So as best as I can tell the Payload sticker is without any occupants, even the driver, but with a full fuel tank. Y'all probably knew all that already but I'm not about to go through 16 pages of posts.

In this case a “skinny” weight is not desirable for a truck. Better to have and not need than to need and not have........for most of us.

Who out there is over 26k combined GVWR between tow vehicle and trailer has their class A non - CDL as required by most states?

It depends what you're pulling and the purpose. If it's your RV then it's not needed in most states.
If you're pulling for money then it is required.

In Canada, the standard used is the GAWR. But, if you get pulled over, they'll check the tire weight rating first, followed by the GAWR. The provinces then go further with their own laws, such as BC, saying you cannot exceed the GVWR.

But in Alberta, its been a free-for-all for years. People routinely load down half-tons so they are over on the GVWR, GAWR and tire rating. Dragging the rear on the ground. I have never met anyone in Alberta that has been pulled over and checked within this province. BC, of course, is another story.

Your truck with my trailer gross vehicle weight rating (16800) would exceed 26,000 so you would need a class a exempt in Texas.

I would venture to guess that there are lots of us on here that maintain our class a status, just for such reasons.
