Remote start added to 2020 Tradesman (SOLVED)

I purchased it from CarandTruckremotes.com and I talked with them this afternoon about it and they’ve never heard of trim levels causing an issue with compatibility. It was a brand new oem fob with the battery installed so I’m assuming there is some level of incompetence there. My sales guys even told me to try another dealer. However, they did try and sell me on the remote start kit lol.

My dealer never checked if the battery was in there ( neither did I). Even if it's brand new FOB the battery is not in it. Double check to make sure.

OEM Fobs that come in unopened mopar packaging from an oem dealer (and/or dealer owned website) come with a battery.

Yep….it’s in there and has good voltage. I’m going to a different dealer on Saturday. I think the other place just wanted to sale me the remote start kit when all I need is the fobs.

I don't think his came from OEM dealer. Since it says Big Horn on it but he have a tradesman. He ordered one online which is probably refurbished otherwise it will cost the same as at the dealer.

They did the same to me but like I said mine was missing the battery. But they told me right away to buy their remote starter which will come with two correct fobs.

No, some big volume dealers have a parts website where they sell parts and accessories at wholesale or discounted prices. Allmoparparts, factorychryserparts, BAM Wholesale are all dealer owned parts departments. Steve White Motors uses eBay to sell their parts and they are always discounted or wholesale priced.

I can take any discounted part price from a dealer website to my local dealer and they will price match.

Again, this is incorrect. The Ram Cares person that told you that was wrong. MOPAR is owned by FCA. It is their OEM part supplier. Just like Motorcraft is Ford's OEM supplier.

It came in a sealed Mopar bag that resembles all other parts that I’ve purchased from the dealer. The remote just has Ram on it but the dealer told me it was for a Big Horn. Either way, I’m taking it to a different dealer tomorrow to try again.

Yeah there is no reason why it wouldn't have worked, except for an incompetent tech or they just wanted you to buy from them.

Your situation is the same as at my dealer. They don't know what they are doing and blame me for everything, It's like they were blaming me for installing gate release and it's causing the problems with my remote starter. I told them numerous times there is no gate release installed on this truck and this is how it works from factory. Tech wasn't happy every time he saw me.

I think they could have done a better job explaining how that works. The factory warranty (bumper to bumper and powertrain) only covers the truck and it’s parts as assembled at the factory and delivered to the dealer. ANYTHING added after that fact, even if OEM parts are used and the dealer installs them, do not fall under the factory warranty. Those parts, or options, if installed by a dealer, would be warrantied directly by the dealer that installed them. So, when ram cares looks at your build sheet, and sees remote start as a dealer installed option, their hands are tied as far as getting anything that has to do with the remote start system taken care of under factory warranty, and the dealership that did the dealer installed option would be on the hook for any issues having to do with that.

No, not if they are replacing parts that the truck was built with, or any issues that pertain to the truck as built that fall under the factory warranty. Now, if you take your brand new truck that is not factory equipped with remote start, and have a dealership install the mopar remote start kit (which uses the exact same parts as a factory equipped truck), and there is an issue with the remote start, then the dealership that installed the kit would be on the hook for any repairs/troubleshooting that has to do with the remote start system that they installed.

Got it. Ram cares didn't explain exactly how it works. They only told me it's considered aftermarket (exact word she used) and they can't help me.

Went to the other dealer this morning and successfully got the fob programmed. I was in and out in 30 minutes and remote start and power tailgate release works. If anyone is in the Houston area drive over to Southfork Dodge in Manvel and ask for Robert Yaniec.

Ok, I bought the FOB (68375456AC)

I have the hood latch electrical connector.

I have Alfa OBD, the KaodTech bypass, and the MX+

So I need to do this (in order):

On Alfa OBD:

• VehConfig-1 Remote Start Present - YES
• BCM, Cust.Set.Menu 1-Sound Horn with Remote Start CSM Present- YES
• CBC I/O: Connector A Pin 11: Hood Ajar Switch Input Present- YES

Then Remove the Kaodtech bypass cable
Have dealer program the new FOB

and that's it? Am I missing any steps or processes? Anything on AlfaOBD? @Jimmy07
