I couldn't wait and backed out of my order. Dealer said the $3k I put down was non-refundable. When I called him 1 week ago about cancelling he stated again it is non-refundable. I didn't want to debate it at that time and waited another week.
At 9 weeks I was still in D1. My order was a fully loaded limited with all the safety stuff, trailer TPMS, etc so the chip shortage was mostly likely my delay. Knowing what others are going through I called him and said I do want to cancel. I have an RV coming in a few weeks and trips planned. I need a truck.
I stated with the truck in D1 I won't see this truck in at least another month and that is if it is built today. He stated the build process already started. I stated it hasn't, and maybe the part allocation has started but the truck physically hasn't been built yet. It takes a day or so to build, then off to body vendor for the bolt on options (bed liner, cover, steps, etc). He stated that is incorrect. It takes weeks/months to build a truck and your truck is already being built. Semantics. I laughed and didn't want to argue.
He did me a favor by talking to his manager and approved my full refund even though it was non-refundable. I'm sure this truck will sell quick 'when' he gets it so don't feel bad.
I don't think its fair that dealers are allowed to 'stretch' the truth on things to cover up these incredibly long lead/build times. Its unfortunate, and sort of out of their control. However, they do have the option to keep the customer informed which is what I'm disappointed with. Many buyers have timelines and I used the quoted 8 - 9 week timeline when ordering with some slop. Some don't care when the truck comes in. I do and unfortunately had to jump.
Thought you guys would enjoy my experience. Don't be fooled. You guys DO have other options. Good luck!
