Blinking red & green lights under dash- what is this?

I suppose depends on state but my state does not have a "grand theft auto" statute. We have unauthorized use of a motor vehicle which is a misdemeanor but that really does not fit and misdemeanor theft and felony theft but again there was a contract entered so it becomes a civil matter. I am sure every state is different. I would think the buyer would have to be advised that they were being tracked (certainly could have been in the contract as many do not read contracts right?) or they might have a civil case against whoever placed the tracking device. Not sure most places allow tracking individuals without some kind of cause or consent. If I were the OP I would read over his/her contract. I would be leery to remove it myself in case it killed the vehicle. Too many unknowns. Is it new vehicle or used? maybe the OP is a 16yoa kid and his parents have installed it to keep track of his whereabouts lol.

Unauthorized Use Of Motor Vehicles

45-6-308. Unauthorized use of motor vehicles. (1) A person commits the offense of unauthorized use of motor vehicles if the person knowingly operates the automobile, airplane, motorcycle, quadricycle, motorboat, or other motor-propelled vehicle of another without the other's consent.
(2) A person convicted of unauthorized use of motor vehicles shall be fined not to exceed $500 or be imprisoned in the county jail for any term not to exceed 6 months, or both. It is an affirmative defense that the offender reasonably believed that the owner would have consented to the operation had the owner known of it.

Uh, no. If I buy it, I will do what I please. I would never enter into an agreement where they could use a lo jack to track my vehicle. I am sure the days are coming when gustapo will require it among other things, but I refuse at this time.

If you buy it outright, it won't have a tracker and if you're paying a monthly bill, it isn't yours until is paid off, the title holder is simply allowing you to use the vehicle.

Heres a grand idea... keep good credit and dont over finance yourself you wont ever need to worry about having a lowjack installed

Just out of curiosity, what happens when you pay the truck off?
Do they remove it or just abandon it?
I have no expirence in that part id assume it was just left as i never had to remove one lol

So what, I have bought new vehicles, altered them before the note was paid, who cares? I do not promise to not touch vehicle when I buy it, merely that I will pay for it. These days is cash, but old days was always a note. A sheeple, I am not.

How about we stop finance companies from crooked lending practices...People with bad credit maybe should not be driving a 50-80 thousand dollar vehicle...Unless of course they have the cash!!

Are we 100% sure this is a financing thing?

I never got a look at the physical box, but back when I purchased my 2015 1500, the dealership was in a not so desirable part of town. I don't know that it was specifically LoJack, but they had a security device in the truck and had it listed as part of the dealer "upgrades" that they wanted me to pay for. When I wouldn't agree to pay for it, they removed it (along with the all-weather mats and dealership decal) while prepping the truck for me to take home.

That is one of my conditions when buying a new vehicle: they must remove their advertising unless they pay me a monthly fee! LOL!

Sounds like a pretty shady dealer... the OP will have to clear it up if he can barely afford the truck or did he buy from a shady dealer lol

Absolutely. The guy who's name was on the dealership at the time has been yelling at everyone in the area during his commercials for the last 40+ years and there are tons of reports all across the web about their shadiness. But I head into every dealership assuming they're going to be shady and let them try to prove me wrong.

Dealin' Doug? I've bought two vehicles from Brandon and have been happy with the experience both times.

I don't want to post any libelous commentary on the interwebz, which is why I refrained from the specifics. But I purchased my 2016 from Brandon Dodge and also had no issues.

There were a few dealers out here in SoCal that had locater security systems listed on their dealer markup. I asked one of them what it was. He said it was like LoJack. He said they would remove it. But of course, they preferred you buy their system. I can't imagine that being a secure installation for a security system though. LOL I am hoping that is a finance tracker as mentioned.
