2019 Truck cap/topper/camper shell thread

I bought a used Ranch Icon. It looks really god but I need to get some weather stripping on the bed rails. Do you know about how much yours weigh? Seen some nice weather srtipping but listed two different style for under 200lbs or over 200lbsView attachment 11845

If you have the carpet and did any add-ons like the roof storage it’s over but without the roof storage it’s right under, the frameless glass might take it just over 200 more glass and the Friberg lads interior is a smaller cut out I would buy the over 200lbs if I were you it always smooshes down regardless

Picked up a used topper this morning from Craigslist for a song! Came off of a 2014 1500 6.4 ft. bed. Fits like a glove. Pic to come after I get it prepped and installed.
This confirms a 1500 Ram truck back to 2014 will fit a 2020 RAM 2500 as long as it is a 6.4 ft. bed.

Bought the tape for over 200 lbs it seams a bit stiffer that just your regular tape and worked well. I also picked up some thicker neoprene for the front side of the bed. With the topper directly on the bed rails there was already a gap on the front. Picked up some front rail seal made out of EDPM. I think it was something around a 1/2 inch thick. Thanks for all the replies

When I look at the canopy sites, all of the shells say they will not fit a 2021 short bed 3500. ARE says no fit on even a 2020 which I am sure is incorrect. I think I wondered about this once before and saw that there was no difference in the bed from 2019 and 2020? Or do they have to say that only because a shell will cover the bed and stop light cameras? But technically they will fit, just block those?

I think there are slight differences to the bed, but you hit the nail on the head for the bed-view camera option. I wanted to retain the ability to use the bed-view camera...hence why I'm waiting on the RSI.

What is special about the RSI and the bed view and rear view cameras on the cab top stop light? I think the cameras will be blocked with any topper? And RSI does show a shell that fits the 2021 Ram 1500 - 3500 standard beds. SmartCap EVO | RSi SmartCap

I see now that some of the caps have a clear lens where the brake light is. Not sure how well that works and not all of their caps have it. Also there seems to be a lot of complaints about the RSI being an inch or two short so it leaks at the back at the tailgate.

I have a question about this too. I like the bed-camera on my 2021 HD. jadmt's pic doesn't seem to indicate if the bed camera will still work / have room to see into the RSi Evo through what looks like a very little view window. On their website they advertise that the light will shine into the bed which I believe but what about the camera function? Anyone have any actual first hand experience with this? I'm also worried about reports on other forums that installing the topper brake light messes up the surround camera, which is super amazing for anyone (like me) that does a lot of parallel street parking with their truck. I'm also worried about the locks freezing when I take the truck to the mountains. I'm debating ordering the Evo, but it is VERY expensive for what may essentially still be beta-test product. First hand experiences with the RSi Evo or if AnywhereInTX has any info from the company on the bed camera would be greatly appreciated!

yes the bed camera works fine. I can not say on surround view as my buddy only has cargo camera and back up camera and both work the same as if the cap was not on there. The cargo light lights up the inside of the cap.

I think that the surround camera view might still work? I have read that surround view uses the front camera, the rear view camera, and the two side mirror cameras. So if it does not use the camera/s in the cab top stop light then it should still work. But I can't say for sure as I do not have the truck yet. The main complaint I have read about the RSI is that it is short on some beds so leaking occurs at the tailgate. But that was on trucks other than Rams so I can't say how they work on Rams.

Yeah, thanks jadmt and Will_T for your replies. I'm optimistic too on the surround cam-- waiting on AnywhereInTX's report when he gets his RSi Smartcap as well as any other HD owners with first-hand accounts. This is a VERY new product, and not cheap, so want a little more verification that will meet my needs before I [shell] out $4k:rolleyes:. Could buy a decent used dirt bike for that much!!!

i do know my buddy takes his through a car wash almost every day and some days 2X as he has a car wash pass and drives by the wash on his way to work every day. He said the only place it leaks is at the positive pressure vent and that is just a few drips when going thru the wash. Does not sound like it would leak in a typical rain. It looks way better in person than in photos.

Holy hell, how’s the pucker factor getting those quads up there?
I have had a bed topper on every truck I've ever owned until now. With this new 2500 I went with a Diamondback HD bed cover and I'm loving it. I can load 2 ATVs on top of it and still access the bed storage under the cover. It gives me more capacity for hauling ATVs to the trails and the option to not have to tow a toy hauler at all just to go riding.

It's not too bad actually. The ramps are 12' long and they have good sized flanges the keep the wheels from falling off.
The quads in the picture are very easy to control driving up the ramps. I have another sport quad with a manual transmission that will likely be more of a challenge to climb the ramps.

You are correct on the cameras...I've had my ARE MX on for a year, the surround view does not use the CHMSL camera to operate.

Got the topper prepped and coated. Installed it today.

wheel paint still holding up? I need to paint mine that color.
Yep, has dulled a bit but that’s what I was after. The paint held (Duplicolor HWP102)up great on the Jeep. So far been pleased. I actually bought black (Duplicolor HWP104)paint too if I did not like the color that is on it now. Been using that color for years.

@DMC1 That looks great! I just ordered a canopy and because the last one I purchased was 20+ years ago, got a sticker shock! Sometimes I think I like the look of one that does not exactly match the truck color. But then I realize it is mostly just when they are a perfect match height and color wise, the standard beds look like a SUV.

I ended up ordering an ARE MX mid-rise. I ordered now even though I don't yet have the truck since the canopy dealer told me it could take 12 to 16 weeks to arrive. Just one more thing to be nervous about I guess! Got the front drop down slider and pet screens and the ARE roof rails with Yakima bars. Because I wanted a mid rise with roof racks for our canoe for a standard bed, I only had one good choice but I think this one will work great.

I discussed at length the brake light/camera fit concerns I had. They assured me they have installed this shell on many 2019 and 2020 Rams with the light and they are tight, but fit. I think he said they just did a 2021 also last week so hopefully it will be fine. I may still remove the brake light and replace with a smaller profile like someone posted they had done. Then there would be no question of fit.

One generic question for others that have an opinion. I am not sure how the specific place I purchased from connects the canopy brake light but I have seen some exposed wiring and connectors at the rear near the side of the tailgate in some trucks that makes me wonder if sometimes installers just splice into a brake light. Is there a better, more recommended way to do this? I always like wiring that is neater and tucked away with no big exposed connections. Perhaps there is a connector under the bed that would be cleaner?

Thanks!
