Price negotiated from MSRP

Thanks guys,

I live in north eastern Arkansas. I guess my issue is is I’m assuming a lot of you guys don’t have a trade in to deal with. Which I do try to just discuss the truck I’m getting first then I throw that I have a trade in to contend with. However I can’t even get them to a decent price on the hd I’m buying. They want to just give me incentives and that’s it. You talk dealership discount etc they look at you like your dumb

I ordered my 2019 Jeep from Fitzgerald and had a trade, the process was completely painless. I was up front about the trade and still got 6% off invoice and then the trade was factored in afterwards.

So I have a question. How are you guys starting your conversation with your dealer on getting these deals. You come in and demand or flat out tell them what you pay or do you play stupid and ask them for bottom dollar and wait until they come back to start the haggle process. Because when I do it they don’t really get nothing done with me
I cut and pasted a half dozen posts from here with ranges on deals from 12-15% off MSRP and dropped them in an email and said that I didn't need the best deal but wanted to be in the ballpark and told my local dealer I would try him first but was willing to travel to get the pricing I wanted. It worked.

I have been looking at building a new Ram 2500. I do have a fleet volume incentive program account number that says I get discount. For those who know about Fleet discounts, is this off of MSRP or invoice. Or, can I negotiate a price first and then present this discount?

You end up getting FFP pricing with incentives taken off the discounted price. At least that's what my code got me. It comes in below invoice by about 1% as I understand it. Others on here have done better but it's all in the dealer.

I went to dealer today to test drive this truck. Had a screen shot of the deal they posted on line which I posted here and they added another $1,500 on top. The truck was low on fuel and actually quit while pulling into gas station. Took a lot of cranking to get it started after fueling.

I was aiming for a lower , not higher price so I walked.

Although I like the Ram, the dealer experience made me do more homework. The dealer that has the truck I what I want is not who I will do business with.....yes I vote with my wallet. Found a good dealer and would have to order. I read all the stories on ordering and I’m not that patient. So I looked at the F250 and just can’t deal with the look. Don’t like the aluminum either. Slightest hail storm will make a mess in a hurry.

I was left with one diesel option, GMC. Drove one and was impressed. The 10 speed tranny is silky smooth. The bed is a bit longer and the fuel tank is a bit bigger which are bonuses. I like the interior as it is simple. Only one dealer in town had anything to choose from on the lot. Some big dealers had none much like the Ram situation. Ford had plenty.

I pulled the trigger on the GMC Sierra HD as one was on the lot exactly optioned as I wanted right down to the color. Being able to drive it home now along with the 10 speed really sold me.

Now I need to sell my F150 and find a topper for the Sierra!

I learned a lot here and thanks all for sharing your knowledge and expertise.

Glad you found what you liked. At the end of the day that's the most important part, regardless of what anyone else thinks.

Ordering the Ram was the only way to go for me. FCA vehicles just have too many options and the vehicles on the dealer lot typically couple options together that I don't want. Example, in my Jeep I wanted proximity key, cold weather package, 8" NAV screen, etc, but did NOT want leather. Good luck finding a Jeep with those "luxury" options and no leather. Ordering the Jeep was the only way to get exactly what I wanted.

Same story with Ram. I wanted a SRW 3500 Longhorn with 3.73 gears and without the sunroof, and the cattle black interior. The only 3500s within 250 miles of me were DRW with 4.10s and of course, a sunroof is pretty much a standard option on the higher trim packages.

I wouldn't call myself patient, but I will say that for 80k, I want to get exactly what I want down to the finest details.

I’m with you. I feel the same way about sun roofs. My 2014 F150 has one and it’s been open 2-3 times in 7 years. Why pay $1000+ for something you don’t want. I thought I would have to order but got lucky.....I want it now! Actually want to get the rig set up for some travel and that takes some time in these “uncertain times.”

No doubt about that!

I wouldn't mind having a sunroof in the truck, I just can't live with rubbing my head on the roof.

I had a sunroof in the Charger Scat Pack that we had and that thing was open as soon as I started the car, but there's something different about driving around in muscle cars. You just want every available opening open.

Placed an order on 2.8.21. I followed along this thread and contacted a couple of the high volume dealerships mentioned here that are providing big discounts. In the end I found that yes the vehicle is dramatically marked down, as in 10 % or greater off MSRP, but the catch was all the added fees. (Had one that added a Pre Delivery Service Fee, Electronic document registration & Document handling fee for a total of $1250.00..... How do you service a vehicle predelivery and honestly all that wiped out a substantial savings) I have gone out of state in the past to purchase vehicles with great advantages, but as well there is a cost to that. Bottom line, my local dealership whom I have bought several trucks from, provided me 1000.00 les than FFP, as well as any incentives that happen to apply when it arrives. Yesterday in the mail I received a 1000.00 coupon from FCA. Let’s hope they extend it and honor it at time of delivery which my GM is pretty confident they will.
Bottom line I am trying to share, beware of the fees that are tacked on after the big “Discounted Sale” price. Working with your local dealership may provide to be the better deal...

I gave my local the actual quote from out of market dealer and told them if they could get close, they would get the sale, they wouldn’t even try to figure it.

That's what happened to me. I bought a truck from a dealer 87 miles away and the local guy wasn't willing to get within 5k of their offer.

You gotta laugh...."pre delivery service fee"? That's a good one! It would be nice to hear what their reasoning for that is.

I just got an email for $1000 bonus cash, but says expires 2/28. My ordered truck won't be delivered until probably April. What led the GM to believe they would extend it?

He said they have known to do so in the past... And taking Into consideration of the times, he feels they might do it again.

man I can't pay someone to email me some bonus cash offers! Trying to get my hands on everything I can before delivery.

I bought my 21 2500 Longhorn Megacab at Matt Bowers in Baton Rouge for around 10% off ($8000) plus a $1500 FCA coupon. Felt like it was a good deal in this climate. They also gave me 68000 for my 20 Denali HD which was more than any other dealer would do. If I didn't have a trade, I would've gone with Mark CDJR in Lake Charles. They have the lowest advertised prices anywhere I've seen but their trade numbers sucked.

Mark Dodge was the best price I found. $219 in fees. I always sell my old vehicles myself for the best price.
