2020 6.7........never owned a diesel, here in Wichita it is single digit temps and has been/will be for next few days......when is the front cover needed?
Thanks

Official word has been when the temps are going to stay below freezing. Up where I am, that's about 5 months that the winter cover is on ;)
Some have found the trucks work just fine without it, but it does make a difference -faster warm ups for sure, and likely easier on the engine when first start driving.

Its needed for the emission systems not for faster warmups thats what the thermostat does... if you dont have proper operating temps 90*C (190*F) then you can cause issues with the dpf and egr that the dealer wont cover under warranty... the grill shutters are not a replacement for the cover like some people think....

Anything 32 and under is required i leave the flaps closed unless it is above 32 the owners manual calls for 18 and below requires the flaps closed

That’s good to know. I glanced at the grill flaps after seeing it mentioned but thought it was automated. I need to look these things up.

Not the grill shutters behind the grill the flaps are on the grill cover... see the squares on the winter front

Oh. Gotcha. I didn’t get that, not a common option in Az.
I still want to look into the grill shutters and understand what’s happening with them.

That was my question.

My truck is getting a DEF tank and components completely replaced because it all froze. Under warranty. The module went out and they replace the entire unit. I guess it’s an easy switch out!

Should be on a road trip but just got to wait for it to be out of the shop to leave with the family

Def is mostly water with a heater in the tank why would they not just thaw it out lol

I have the grill cover in storage behind the rear seats....It will never see the light of day!

Hopefully...we could end up like Texas I guess? :D

I've been running around between Colorado and back home to Texas over the last week and a half. no cover. truck ran great. lowest temps I saw were -5f.

Spent 10 years in Colorado and never used a grill cover on my trucks. I'm sure it would help warm up a little quicker but it certainly was never an issue not using it.

.

Is to be used under 32F... However, I will put the cover on when the engine cannot get up to temp. I have seen it get to 190 within 10 mins (when plugged in) even when it -8F. I'm interested to see the affects on trans temp though.
