Big Horn cloth interior vs Laramie leather

So as the thread title suggests I’m looking for input on the Big Horn cloth interior (black) as I am actually leaning toward this over the Laramie which has leather. I’m thinking with my dogs claws and in general wear over a 5 year period say for example the cloth may look better. I’ve reviewed the 2021 Big Horn options and I can basically load it up to a point where they are equal other than the cloth vs leather. Comfort wise I’ll assume they are as good if not better , stay cooler in the hot weather, and a simple shampoo to clean when necessary. Thanks in advance for your replies. I am a few days away from placing my order so I can get the 2021 HO with the CP3 instead of say taking a deal on a 2020 Laramie HO . ( well that’s my current plan so far ) .

This is one of the main reasons I went with the Bighorn on my 2019. I got the premium cloth upgrade in diesel gray and couldn't be happier. After 472,000 miles on my 04 Laramie I just wanted to go back to cloth for all the reasons you list. Just wish I had the CP3  I've got 40,000 on it and no issues serious issues yet. Truck is awesome compared to old reliable 04.

I like leather and think it's tough to beat for wear. I bought a Bighorn/Sport package with premium cloth and have no complaints

I hate cleaning dog hair out of fabric so once I switched to leather there was no going back. YMMV, but I've found that it's easier to keep leather clean with dogs that shed a lot. If the dogs have left a lot of hair inside, I'll just open both doors and use a leaf blower to blow most of the hair out before taking it to the car wash. If only I could get rid of all the carpeting. As far as wear and tear, it really depends on the quality of the leather. Crappy leather sucks and won't hold up. Good leather will last the life of the truck if taken care of moderately.

Good thing my dog doesn’t shed .. Great Pyrenees standard Poodle mix .. non shedding thanks for the feedback !

I've had 5 Lone Stars (Texas Big Horn) and just ordered my 6th because I prefer riding on cloth. I put a nylon seat cover in the back of the crew cab for the dogs who are often wet and/or muddy. The nylon also takes care of the shedding. The seat covers come off and on pretty easy for cleaning or for when I have back seat passengers. But, the real tradeoff is sweat. The leather is hotter, but the cloth absorbs the sweat more and my wife complains about the locker room smell. So, I keep a beach towel in my truck to put on my seat for those hot Texas work days. I thought the ventilated leather seats would be nice (I did get the heated cloth) but the ventilated leather would absorb the sweat and the wet dogs, too. So, I'd use the nylon seat cover in the back and the beach towel up front even if I had leather. The real solution was to get a full size SUV with leather as a 3rd vehicle so I don't have to worry about how clean my working ranch truck is--or, how it smells.

Just ordered what will be my 5th Big Horn. Cover the front seats with Cordura, and rear seats are in the fold up position, cargo platform for the dogs. Two labs, the chocolate stradles the folded down front middle section, the black one either looks out the window, or sleeps on the platform. My second set of labs, chocolate and black with the same traits. I vacuum 5-6 times a year, and have the inside detailed every couple of years. Slobber is worse then hair in my book. Thats how we roll, and they go everywhere with me. I like dogs and maybe three people.

My last two trucks had cloth. I went with leather this time and I much prefer the leather for both looks and comfort. I don't have a dog riding in my truck but I know in our house leather is much easier than cloth to remove pet hair.

I went with the BigHorn loaded with options for the cloth seats in my build as well. I went with cloth as I don't want to worry about rubbing down seats in Armorall to prevent cracking. They are also warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer. Yes you can get ventilated seats, but I find ventilated seats more effective at collecting crumbs in the vent holes than cooling the occupant down. My wife has leather in her vehicle and she says she wish she would have got cloth instead when she rides in my truck with me.

I wish they would do it like my JKF wrangler with cloth inserts and leather side bolsters. It's the perfect combo of looks and moisture wicking on those hot sunny days. The cloth is a fairly dense weave so the fur doesn't thread into it.20210208_134245.jpg

I’m in agreement on all your points. I’m meeting with my dealer tomorrow to work on a 2021 Ram 3500 big horn night edition. I believe in long run this is actually better than a Laramie.

I traded in a while ago a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk and the material inserts were great as well. It’s helped make my decision to go cloth on a “ downgraded” version of a Ram 3500

Personally I think the new Laramie seats kind of suck! I liked the older ones better. I sat in a Big Horn with the black premium cloth seats and I was jealous. Very nice seats and an interior in the Big Horn.

Good to hear. I didn't want leather in my "truck" and needed to seat 6. Premium black cloth it is and I look forward to it.

Now that’s what I want to hear ! Thanks for the feedback

My friend has cloth in his. No way am I giving up my leather for those. And if I wasn't gonna be selling my 2007 I would be putting Katzkins in! LOL Different strokes for different folks I guess.
