Okay gentlemen,
My F250 died last week and I decided to trade it in and get what I thought was a gently used 2020 Ram 2500 with a 6.7 Cummins. I purchased this truck yesterday, pretty clean inside and out, for about 50k (57k was the new price) and they are going to put $1300 worth of tires on it for me. Last night I drove 100 miles round trip and the thing was a dream, got 22 MPG highway at 75 mph. Today I am on my way to Bass Pro to get some targets and something sounds and feels wrong. I've been in a vehicle when a cylinder stops and that's what it sounds and feels like happened. Of course I take it straight to the dealership and nobody from service is in because it is Sunday. Tonight it is my homework to figure out what else could be wrong with this thing so let me give you all the info I have on this truck.
2020 Ram 2500, 4wd, Crew Cab, 6'4" bed, previous owner was Enterprise Rentals, 21k miles, the tow hitch was used and the bed shows signs of use as well. The front and rear tires did not match (Ironman's on the back, firestones on the front) leading me to think at this point that this truck may have been abused in its life as a rental.
I am trying to come up with a checklist of things that I should have the dealer look over (if they are willing to) that could also have been damaged in the past year of this trucks life and would really appreciate any advice you all could give me. This is my first diesel and I really want something that is going to last.
Checklist so far:
Axles
Locking Hubs
Engine
Differential
Is there anything else I am missing? Should I just ditch this truck as too much of an unknown? Should I wait for the service tech to look it over and tell me what's going on? I still have 80k miles of warranty.
I really appreciate any advice you all can give, this is a pretty significant investment for me and I need this truck for work (construction).
