Paint protection, wax, ceramic coating?

Hey everyone. I picked up a 14 Limited earlier this year with 100,000 miles on it and spent a lot of time cleaning it up including clay baring, buffing with a mild compound and applying a coat of chemical guys Hydro slick which i Was very happy with.

Now on to my question. I sold the 1500 and picked up a 2020 3500 Cummins. VERY HAPPY! but as soon as the weather breaks here in Ohio it badly needs something on the paint to protect it and repel dirt/water. I’m planning to use the same Hydro Slick but I’m wondering what everyone else is using and has had good luck with?

Sure looks like you kept that black truck shining! Not an easy task. I am really envious of the shine you got there.

I like chemical guys. I use their products in my foam cannon. I’ll wash a truck, but I’m too lazy to go beyond that.. Which is unfortunate because I only buy black trucks.

what paint was that? I got px8 on mine which is non metallic gloss black. It’s a low volume color on the HD

The 1500 has PX8 and the 3500 has PXJ paint.

I did chemical guys carbon Force 5 year ceramic coating. Took a lot of prep work but in the end I think it’s well worth it.

Maguiars hybrid ceramic, I’m lazy, it takes no effort, doesn’t leave residue on the black plastics, water just beads up and runs right off.

Dont use that hydroslick its crap and buffing it off after aplication is a bastard! I use turtle wax ceramic but look up jimbos detailing on youtube he does the best testing and great info

It seems that just lately, the manufacturers are all coming out with graphene products as the next generation of coatings.

On youtube, Pan the Organizer has a great collection of videos where he tests products.

For hybrid products, he seems to be a fan of Turtle Wax products and they have a new graphene product line. He reviews that here;

For his head to head comparison of pure graphene coatings, see here;

For those guys who put the work in, you can sure get amazing results with the pure coatings.
I think I'm going to give the Turtle Wax graphene hybrid a try.

See I used the Hydro slick on the 1500 in my original post and had no trouble with application. I actually liked how easy it was to work with. After using the Griots Best of show wax and feeling like I needed elbow surgery for 2 weeks after the Hydro slick was a huge energy saver with good results. I will definitely look up Jimbos tonight! Thanks

When I was interviewing body shops to repair my 2020 RAM 3500, I asked about coatings like dealerships offer. They have a product with 1or 3 or 5 year guaranteed protection. We had something like that done from Ford on the wife's Mustang. I will have the wife's black van done. And after 90 days I will have my truck coated. Both going the 5 year product. After that, washing the vehicles will be much easier! And no full days washing, cleaning and reapplying stuff on two vehicles.

I ended up using the Chemical Guys Hydro slick and it came out good but I ordered a bottle of the Turtle wax Graphene and can’t wait to try it when the weather breaks.

I actually bought this Turtle Wax Graphene Flex wax to use on my wife's Explorer and our trailer and I have been extremely impressed with it. I used the Turtle Wax Hybrid Solutions Pro polish to do a paint correction and then the Flex Wax and I am amazed at how well it is doing and how amazing it looks. I was going to get my truck coated but with the results I have seen I am just going to lightly polish it and coat with Flex Wax now when it ever arrives

if you get a bottle of the Turtle Wax Flex Wax you can use it as a topper to your ceramic as well to extend the life. I coated my wife's SUV and I use it as a drying aid with each wash. The damp cloth was definitely key like you mentioned though

I am a Ceramic fanboy after coating both my trucks and my dads 4th gen. I have noticed after if it rains the truck almost looks cleaner (self cleaning properties). And the gloss is off the charts, worth the time and effort if applying yourself but i warn you, if you don't have a detailing back ground you could do more harm then good. it is a process for sure but it is 100% worth it when its said and done. (picture of ranger for reference)- truck is a 2004 and looks insane after ceramic install.
