Who has installed a cb?

I don’t have it wired up yet but I’m not expecting much especially since the radio has such a tiny speaker. I have an external speaker to mount to fix this problem, just trying to decide where to mount it.

Mine stays on my hip...or in the console vault when I can’t have it. Lol

Two is one, one is none. LOL

I put mine in the back of the center console.

I like to use that space for other storage, including where I keep an IFAK.

I considering picking up a Midland MTX275 remote setup but already have a programmable mobile that's setup for GMRS/HAM SHTF and a 75WXST CB and amp that's suitable for my need to comm with tow buddies, so I'd prefer to use those. The WX ST is easy as it's just finding somewhere to hang the mic. If the other guys would get off the CB's and move to GMRS the choices would be simpler.

Going to apply for gmrs. 11 is just about dead even road travel around here. Gmrs is a nice band and is nice it's easy to get in and has inexpensive equipment.

I just passed my tech exam 2 days ago. (Im)patiently waiting to be officially legal to operate 2m!

GMRS licenses have dropped to $35..I know after using CB's for years the GMRS is so much nicer. We can talk miles apart clear as a bell.

I did not know that. I was being cheap and avoiding the $70.

Who monitor the licenses? Are licenses monitored via radio purchases?

OK, looks like the fee reduction was approved but is still 60-90 days out from being applied to the licensing system.

As I understand it, the approved bubble pack low power handheld GMRS do not require a license (the radio is licensed.) Mobile and base units require a license.

I don't understand your question about who monitors?

I got my license about two month's ago. The only time they check is when you get permissions to use a repeter tower . Check out , My GMRS great site.has a lot of great info.

no, but it is an fcc thing. it was quick and painless process. Not testing just pay your money and get a license good for 10 years. First time using it compared to a CB made it worth the price of the license even at $70. buddy and i each have the midland 105 and we can talk to each other several miles away. Another buddy has the 40watt one and he lives probably 15 miles away with a mountain range between us and we can talk to each other. it is crazy how clear they are.

Yeah. Was part of the overhaul. I luckily got my tech ham license in time to NOT pay the fee. I'll wait till after the change takes affect to get gmrs. Think it could be fun for the little guy when he gets older.

I think all gmrs operators need a license (family members all fall under one license) the lower powered frs don't need licenses. it is my understanding if your radio can operate as a gmrs you need the license.

It's been a long time since I passed the morse code test for my HAM license. The final license I obtained in 1979 meant I was only limited by the equipment I could afford. I do not remember what it was called. I had a series of technical tests that I completed. I remember one which included me submitting my radio that I built for final approval.

Guessing crystals are no longer used?

Relative question. I know people still using old crystal radios. But it's become a hobby in and of itself. It's not common anymore.

I use a Grey Man Tactical RMP Seatback panel for that.

I saw that. If I was running an off-road/overland setup instead of just towing a fifth wheel and/or hauling back seat passengers, I'd do that too and much much more!

Nice rig.

What radio/pouch is that and do you like the pouch. I need some for the gaggle of UV5R, UV82 radios I have and can't decide.

P.S. The dust cover on your pistol AR is open.

Yeah I can see were the space trade off is.

Thank you by the way.

5.11 Tactical Flex Radio Pouch, I like it. I also run it on a get home bag. The latch is pretty neat making it easy to get the radio out quickly, but also holds when running.

Working on a better mount system, quick fist maybe, the bolt catch hits the panel and releases.
