In order to determine resolutions to vehicle concerns, an in-person diagnosis must take place in order to exhaust all possible root causes. I doubt RamCares has read every post in every thread they get mentioned in so maybe cut them a little slack. Something I believe you asked everyone to do for dealers a few posts back?

I made it a point to listen to my truck on a cold start with the radio off and the windows down. I now hear the “noise” you guys speak of. I wouldn’t even call it a noise, it’s a sound.

It’s normal. It sounded like that on the lot and it’s still sounds like that after 10,000 miles.

My opinion is based on the two videos referenced, my truck sounding just like those two videos, and combined with the numerous posts saying they hear it on all the 6.4s.

So, I am a dealer tech trying to investigate this noise and I want to come on here and save my fellow advisors, techs and dealer personnel from the unfair judgment you are passing on them. Yes, this is happening on all of our lot cars, there is no fix proposed by FCA yet, nor any indication if they have an open case via TSB. Sometimes the noise doesn't do it, it definitely seems to be ambient temperature related. This is an issue for engineering, you are expecting something from a dealership they cannot give. We don't design and build them, we maintain and repair them. The dealership isn't blowing you off, the advisor isn't blowing you off, we just have no fix for this at this point. We understand it is annoying and you want a resolution but you are asking the wrong people. You need to contact FCA. It currently looks like we are facing a design issue, dealers do no design and redesign, they do not have that authority or ability. So if the fix is to install a redesigned part, we need to get a redesigned part first to install. It would be nice if we were treated like humans and with respect and not accused of blowing you off simply because we have no ability to provide a resolution yet. It certainly makes me less motivated to do the research that led me here in an attempt to satisfy a customer. Yes, I joined just to say that.

Please know that a part of our role at RamCares is to track trends so that the appropriate parties, such as our engineering teams, can be made aware of what concerns our customers are experiencing.

At this time, from this level of customer care, what I am able to do is escalate vehicle troubles to case specialists for added assistance to dealer services. In order to determine resolutions to vehicle concerns, our role is to work alongside our dealers in order to exhaust all possible root causes. Therefore, my offer to those experiencing this concern still stands. We would be happy to escalate a case on behalf of this concern in order to develop a resolution with our internal network.

I picked up my 2021 2500 Night edition with a 6.4L that I special ordered and waited 3 months for. The day I picked it up they started it for me because it was cold outside. I thought I heard the noise that everyone else describes, but it stopped before I could even go around the vehicle to investigate. Two hours later my mom came by to see my new truck, I started it for the first time myself and what I heard at the dealership was confirmed, and of course my mom said "what's wrong with your new truck?".

I called the dealership and made an appointment for my truck with 65 miles on it, took it in the night before so it would be cold, and wouldn't you know they called me and played dumb like they didn't here it. I gave it an hour so it would get cold and went to the dealership. The head technician came out and when I started it he said "oh that noise, that is normal, it's the exhaust on the 6.4's, Ram told us at a training event for all head techs that this is normal." I asked him if he would spend $65,000 and settle for that's normal? He said no, but there's nothing they can do.

I can't believe this thread has been going for 17 months, and there's still no solution. I am not talking bad about RamCares, but there's 8 pages of comments here from people all over the US, and my dealership said they were trained that it's normal, so obviously Ram is aware. What more can we do to get Ram to address this problem?

A new truck that looks awesome, but sounds like junk, is junk to the people that here it.

I had the same sound on my 2014. I am surprised to find it is STILL a problem with these engines. It was coming from the exhaust up near the engine, just as people are saying here. I recall mine was only on the driver's side. I might have bothered to figure it out but I sold it (not for that reason, though)

Kathryn - I've done just that, elevated, had a Customer Care Lead handle it with no resolution. Had the truck in multiple times and RAM (Dodge) says there is not a fix for it at this time. Until enough people scream loud enough, nothing will be done. V

CD - I've said in earlier threads unless we are willing to ELEVATE as a Group of many, Ram is not going to Care. It will take effort and organization. My truck was $55K and its a lot of money for a vehicle that sounds like its hard broke. V

Kathryn, I've already done that. Elevated to "gold" level and nice enough people, but the dealership said the same thing to them. They are aware of it, but corporate had not initiated a fix yet. I don't believe they will unless we go in mass to them with the complaint. Thanks, V

Obviously if there are this many complaints its not in anyones head. And it has to be in mass as in all at once sent to corporate for them to act. Cheers.

try turning up your hearing aide just kidding. after 6000 miles I am used to mine so it does not bother me any more, mostly because I know it is not hurting anything.

It sounds to everyone else like a squealing belt, which is embarrassing on a nice vehicle. You would think after all this time someone would have disassembled the upper exhaust and looked for something that would create a whistle.

Maybe not in this particular case but sounds coming from belts and pulleys is a common problem with Ram. I’ve had it on a 17 1500 and a 19 2500. In both cases the dealership “could not duplicate” and in both cases I silenced the noise by replacing belts, pulleys, or applying dielectric grease to the belt.
