Has anyone tried removing the belt and starting it? It would at least eliminate everything that's driven by the belt.
It's not a belt noise, I have it isolated to the exhaust pipe and believe it is either amplifying valve train/exhaust noises or potentially some sort of noise from the vehicle vibrations causing a heat shield or the exhaust pipe to rub or even amplifying some sort of rotational noise from the torque converter. It is very obvious when under the vehicle that the noise originates around the exhaust pipe or through the exhaust pipe.Has anyone tried removing the belt and starting it? Has anyone tried to insulate the downpipe and cat to mitigate the sound at least since some people are OK with it? It would also help to verify that the noise is coming from the exhaust which seems to be the consensus. Otherwise it may be a design problem or something in the internal rotating assembly. Possibly even the flex plate, torque converter or transmission. How can Ram continue to sell these trucks like this? I personally started 6 trucks with the 6.4 at a Ram dealership in Rhode Island and every truck had the startup squeal. There was a 3500 pulling out of the service area and it had the same squeal so it's a big problem. Agreed man, I guess one man’s tick is another man’s squeal. It fades in a matter of seconds. After watching one of the videos posted earlier in this thread, I realized what everyone was calling a squeel is what I was thinking is more of a raspy flutter exhaust noise. It is interesting how it abruptly stops after a couple of minutes. I sat and listened to it the other day and it didn't gradually go away, it was there one second and gone the next. It kind of reminds me of a more muted version of the exhaust sound a hot rod makes sitting at idle.
It is probably a design issue, but design issues take time to address and resolve, if the brand considers the issue pressing. There is no mechanical failure or danger posed by the issue, it is an annoyance, more so for some than others, so there is no reason to issue a stop sale. I, personally, do not mind or hardly notice the noise and believe owners are more sensitive to it due to what I call the "cotton gloves effect," which I call that period of owning something new to where we are hyper aware of anything that arises, minor or not. I know I experience it when I buy new cars and guitars myself.Has anyone tried to insulate the downpipe and cat to mitigate the sound at least since some people are OK with it? Yeah, it’s an issue with some trucks, but that’s not what we are talking about.
Well, if any of you are interested in why these motors tick and have cam and lifter problems.
Hello @Jostmon, congratulations on your new vehicle purchase! We are sorry to hear that you are experiencing these concerning noises from your RAM. Please do not hesitate to send us a private message if you are in need of any additional support while addressing this concern with your dealer. We are more than willing to get a case escalated on your behalf to a customer care specialist for additional assistance.New to forum. Just purchased 2020 2500 tradesman 6.4 hemi. Has 400 miles on it. Started making the squeak chirp yesterday. It squeaks/rattle while cold with rpm up a little as soon as rpm drops upon reaching operating temp the noise almost goes away. I tried to upload a video but it won’t allow. The noise is like others have stated on driver side down tube crossover pipe by the O2 sensor heat shield or higher near manifold. Probably going to take to dealer and show video to at least get it in the service record.
Hello, did the borla stop the noise?I think it is the exhaust I thought it was just mine I'm taking to dealer on Friday for first oilchange I'm going to ask either way I have a borla exhaust in transit
Agree, AC sucks even in Colorado. Also agree with dealer, until enough of us file a complaint, they won't do anything (corporate dodge)...Picking up my 6.4 in a few minutes from the dealer. New one on lot has the chirp sound also. Dealer said they have heard the sound and until enough people complain manufacturer isn’t going to act. On a positive note the dealer did tell me it’s the exhaust making this noise. I told them this does make sense due to the general location from where the noise is emanating AND the noise disappears after driving the truck. I’m not too concerned now. Annoying but not a show stopper to make me get rid of the truck... AC performance is driving me to look at F250’s. If I didn’t live in the south I may not be as concerned with the AC. I hope your chirping sound goes away after the truck is up to temperature like mine does. Let us know if you would!
Just happened to watch a TFL episode on youtube on a 2020 Ram 2500, and their truck even has the sound. Check it out at 19:26. you can really hear it at 19:35
I don’t hear a squeal in either of these videos. I don’t hear it on my truck, either. Sounds like a healthy V8 to me. Maybe I just got a good one...If only my dash would quit squeakingThe TFL video is hard to tell because the exhaust is loud, but it is there. This is a better video
Yep, my truck chirps up a storm too.
It's very disappointing.
Hello everyone, we certainly understand how this noise is concerning! In order to determine resolutions to vehicle concerns, an in-person diagnosis must take place in order to exhaust all possible root causes. If this is something you decide to address with your Ram dealer, we would be more than willing to escalate a case on your behalf to a specialist for further support through that process. Please do not hesitate to follow up via private message to begin that process!Mine does the same. Drives me crazy. Cant upload the video but sounds like a bunch of crickets! Haha. Havent been to the dealer yet but assuming they wont do anything.
