I plan to sell my Night Editon 20s with the stock tires. What are most people doing about the sensors? Should I just buy new sensors for the new wheels or move them over from the old wheels. I have heard the OEM sensors are on backorder. Somebody recently posted a link on Amazon for sensors that will work - at least with the 3500s (I have a 2500). Do I take a chance on the aftermarket sensors? If they were in stock at Ram I would just drop the coin for new ones. Are the aftermarket sensors decent quality?

I've talked to a few tire shops and getting conflicting reports. A couple said they have aftermarket ones that "should work", while a couple said to use the OEMs. And, yes all are saying they are backordered for a couple of months.
I plan on keeping my OEM rims and tires to put back on when I trade the truck for the next one that will probably tempt me ;)
To get the wheels and tires I want, I have to order from an online reseller, which would be a hassle if they don't work. So at this point, I think I will just get the OEM sensors swapped over.

hth,

after market tpms sensors will work, they have a re learn process specific to each make.

Thanks calgary ;-)

What do you think are the issues that others are having with the aftermarket ones not working?

Could be a multitude of things but my hunch would be, the 5th gets have a different ecm coding so they require updated software or sensors for the year specific and tire shops or dealerships could be using up to 2018 ones.

Been about 5 years since I was doing passenger tires, been doing heavy OTR but thats my guess.

I'll call a close friend tomorrow that owns a shop and report back.

That being all said, to avoid it buy your own OEM ones they're relatively cheap and use those to avoid any problems. I would go that route personally when I put my summers on next year.

The price different should be negligible to avoid the hassle.

Go with OEM. Discount tire couldn't get theirs to work and I ended up buying OEM ones anyway.

Got 3rd party ones on all 6 wheels. Worked like a charm, no relearning.
They "cloned" the OEM one so truck doesn't even see a change. Within a few hundred feet from tireshop I had updated readings.
That is the advantage of buying local / in person. They can scan your OEM ones to clone them.

When I went with my AEV wheels I ordered OEM sensors from Benny at AllMoparparts. Been buying stuff from him for a good while for my Jeeps and now the RAM. I paid about $25 each for them. Tell him you are a forum member. Sometimes they offer free shipping. I just ordered the parts from him to install my bumper fogs.
I sold my original wheels/tires and sensors intact. Around here it is easier to sell them as complete, plus just less hassle. My new OEM sensors read immediately when I put them on the truck. No issues to date.

I turned off the TPMS with alphaOBD and just run regular valve stems with no problem.
I initially had the same thought process but after going off-road in my Jeeps I come to like the TPMS feature As long as I can control and set the values. While going down trails I flip the screen to TPMS and it lets me see if I have popped a tire Or on my way to a flat.

I couldn't find the sensors for our trucks on the AllMoparparts site, Any chance you have the P/N available?

Here is the part number I ordered. 68378369AC. All four plus shipping cost me $105.12. I had contacted Benny prior to ordering and he gave me the part number. They work flawlessly.

Thanks, That is a big help!

@DMC1 I searched allmoparparts and that part number didn't come up. I searched other mopar sites and it shows sensors, but say they are discontinued.
If you have any info on if there is a superseded part number, that would be great. I will also try to find Bennie's email from the site.

thanks,
B

I bought a autel kit off Amazon it came with 433mhz sensors. It clones the old ones and will relearn the positions through the ecm. But mavis has taken over and I got sick of taking new tires off to fix seal leaks. So now I do em myself . But I guess it depends on your shop. If you have a good one let them put all new so the battery is fresh oem or aftermarket won't make much of a difference.
