Winter Front Grille Cover - Installed

Ya, when I first installed the cover I was thinking that there was no way that those tabs were gonna fit in them little slots without busting the grill but they did after some gentle persuasion. I pulled the cover off for a few days during some unseasonably mild temperatures. It went on much easier the 2nd time around.

Mercury plummeted a few a few days ago and the forecast is for continued double-digit (centigrade) freezing temperatures. Time to install that winter front that came with the truck. It was not accompanied by any instructions so I pinged the maker (Cover King) and they were kind enough to send me a copy. The instructions didn't reveal any installation details over and above what I'd already figured out. Well, there was one exception. The lower flap of the cover that came with truck provides good coverage for lower grill. The flap also covers the centre Park Sense sensors and renders the front Park Sense system inop. Interestingly, the instructions I got from Cover King depict the lower flap of the cover with radiused cutouts at the lower outer corners that appear to allow the sensors to see fwd. Queried the dealer on this and there is apparently little to no information in their system re these covers. I've just turned off the front Park Sense for now but gonna get after FCA for an explanation. Not holding my breath, tho...

My winterfront came with the radiused cutouts as shown, bought the truck at the end of November '19.

Yep, trucks built earlier in the year apparently got the first edition, which does work, it just renders the front park sense inoperative. I haven't been back to harass my dealer parts guy since early Dec but they did indicate that they'd swap covers once the newer version became available as a standalone part.

I just I tried to install this cover and my initial impression is what a piece of junk. Nothing is tight and those tabs move around so much and hold the cover so loosely that there is no way it would stay on at highway speeds. Also blocks the front camera. FCA has to redesign this. It's useless on my Limited grill.

I seem to recall there was a recall on the front covers for not fitting properly on 2019+ trucks.

Interesting. Funny that no one at my dealership or customer care seems to know anything about it. The one I got with the truck doesn't fit tight enough for the limited grill, has no cut-out for the camera, but does have the cut-out for the parking sensors. I'll have to print your info off and take it to the dealership. Thx!

If anyone gets the new part number with proper cutouts, please share.

This doesn’t apply to our trucks. Our grille camera is just for 360 view. The collision warning system is radar in the windshield, and the windshield camera is for lane keeping and auto high beams.

Regardless, the current cover still doesn't fit the Limited grill and still blocks the camera.

Mind taking a picture?
Thanks.

Agreed. That’s unacceptable.

Should be a pretty easy fix for someone with a sewing machine though if you really want it to work.

Sorry for the thread resurrection but I'm baffled by this cover. Is there a trick to getting this thing installed with the blackout package? I've watched the install videos with the chrome fronts and the tabs just easily slide in and clip onto the grill. When I go to install mine on the black grill I can't even get my pinkie finger to the back of the grill let alone the clip and a finger to install it.....am I missing something here?

Mine was the same with the chrome i just used a prybar with electrical tape on the end to keep from scratching and a light pry and you can slide it in, if i didnt use the prybar i would never had got it in

Speaking of, I have a brand new one of these for my 19 2500 Laramie that I am not going to use. I’d be willing to give it away for the cost to ship.

Mine came with the new cover with the removable Center for the camera. You just have to pull out the red thread to remove it. That being said this thing reminds me too much of a car bra from the 80’s and I remember the damage those things did to vehicles in the winter. As soon as any sand got behind it it turned into sandpaper.

I think I’ll hold off on mine until I get stupid cold. don’t see many people running them anyways around here.

I notice if i dont run mine i get good heat but the temp does not reach proper operating temp of 90*C which is not good for the engine and thats at anything under -5*C it does that, i also know of a couple people denied warranty because they didnt have the front on in the winter

I’ll take it if you’re willing to do that. I’m having a hard time finding one.
