I have a 2020 big horn mega srw short bed, 4x4. It’s pretty tall to the rails. Wondering what hitch would be best. Oh I also have the prep for hitch rails. The rig would not be bigger than 32 feet. Never had a fifth wheel so this is new to me.

For my 2500 6'6" bed, new 5th wheel owner I went with the PullRite auto slider. Used mine for 4 years then bought a 3500 with an 8 foot bed. The autoslider helped me as a new 5th wheel owner.

Auto slider means you don't have to get out of the truck and slide the hitch back to maneuver. Like when a car forces you to suddenly swing out further than planned.

Since then, the Demvo unit came out, and doesn't require a capture plate.

Buy one hitch that is rated for your truck max, not the lighter trailer, and you'll not need to buy another hitch for that truck.

Both the Pullrite Superglide and the Demco are great products. Autoslide hitches are heavy and expensive but like was mentioned earlier spend a little more cash now makes since in this case. With my Demco I have just under 7 inches of bed clearance even with 35s .

Today, I'd buy the Demco hitch because it doesn't require plates to be purchased for you trailer. And I missed some easy money dragging a few trailers because I did not have the plate required for that trailer.

I second this. I went Demco this round because of the versatility. Used to work in RV business and moved a ton of different trailers. Hook and book no BS.

Will the Demco fit on the beds predrilled holes or do I have to do new ones.

You have to buy the ram puck adapter. It just under 500. That mounts to the factory puck system and provides universal rails to mount a hitch to.

Here is the Pullrite 2315 on Ram OEM puck system for comparison.SG1.jpgSG4.jpg

a lot of people are moving to the anderson....those are aluminum weigh only 40 lbs.
I have a long bed with a curt. if i would do it over i likely would go with the anderson

If you 've seen the fail pics from AUH I have, you'd never even consider one.

Latest was another panic stop (no vehicle crash) posted on the West Coast Toyhaulers FB forum by the owner and it was toast. So was the truck and camper after the hitch failed.

I have the anderson. Love it. Nice to be able to quickly remove everything from the bed of my truck and still have a truck and not a 500 pound hitch in the back.

I passed on the Anderson ultimate hitch myself, there is a reason a good hitch is heavy. Do you trust a toy truck to do a real trucks work? How many times do you hear of a real 5th wheel hitch failing? Seems we are hearing and seeing more on the AUH, by the day. As far as the aluminum version, I say no way. 1 failure is 1 too many.

Hmm interesting. I have been using my AUH for over two years now with no issues. But, I guess what you say is always a possibility.

I've a large collection of AUH fail pics...including stories of several that were just panic stops - no accident or other incident. Agree, no way I'd ever run one to pull my 16K setup.

I understand that they do work, and there is a market. I looked at them but couldn’t bring myself to go that route. 60-80k trucks and 60-150k 5th wheels , a few hundred saved on AUH doesn’t make sense To me.

I'm going with the PullRite #2600 Superlite (1P). All I need is a 20K hitch for my needs and it's a little kinder on the PL requirements.

I have the 2500 srw, short bed. I have only been with a fifth wheel for 4 years but pulling campers for 16 yers. I have had a Curt manual slider that I would not recommend as it would bind up and you couldn’t pull the slider handle. Then I went to B and W manual slider. That thing took up the whole bed, weighed nearly 250 pounds and dang near impossible to load and unload yourself. I love the fact I just have the gooseneck ball and no rails though. The thing is I rarely used the slider function with either one. Now have the B and W non slider. Yes I have to pay more attention to the cab corners to make sure they don’t touch but I can load the unit myself, and unload it without having to get the tractor out or call for help. I’m no strong man either. 6 ft / 175 average build. I easily can make the circle in our subdivision with out 38 footer. It also has adjustable height settings.

I had a PullRite autoslider and like it a lot. I did out a chain hoist in my carport to lift it in and out of my bed. I set it on a pallet with wheels and moved it into the garage out of the way. I could have disassembled it into pieces and moved it that way. But I never need to do so.

I dislike the gooseneck conversions because a standard 5th wheel neck is not beefy like gooseneck trailers are.
