Might have found a truck 1500 miles away

Going through a similar situation right now. I’m glad this is more normal than I thought.

We found a truck in Texas (I’m in Florida). If the financing works out I’ll be flying out next weekend to pick it up and do the 1000 mile drive home.

The phone salesman I’m dealing with is....well, a salesman. I’ve had to coach him through the process more than I thought I would have to. Currently waiting for some updated pictures (pics on website are of truck before going through lot prep). If pics check out and financing checks out, I’ll ask them to put a couple contingencies on the agreement (inspection prior to purchase to see if there is any damage, test drive, etc). Fingers crossed all works out.

I have had great experiences dealing with out of state dealers as well. My wife found our dream truck several states away. 2020 3500 limited HO. Several phone calls, overnight paperwork, done. We drove up, looked it over and were driving it home 20 minutes after being at the dealer. My father in law was so impressed with our new truck and our experience he wanted a new Ram. My wife found him a 2020 1500 Eco diesel several states away as well. He had a lease with 5 months remaining to trade in. A few pictures, phone calls, etc and we were driving to Ohio. He not only got a really good deal but they bought out the rest of the lease.

Well, I wish I had good news but I dont. The dealer pulled some weird crap last minute (tacked on a "mandatory equipment package" of $2000, which included $20 wheel locks, $100 front tinted windows, and a mandatory GPS tracker). It took them a full week after my credit application to pull my credit, then proceeded to pull it multiple times.

I have also maintained a credit score right around 800, and they proceeded to offer me the "best financing they could find" at almost 7%, with a company that doesnt offer personal auto loans. I laughed it off as they clearly have an interesting deal with some type of personal loans to get larger kick backs. The salesman said the manager would call me back and explain... still waiting on that call.

Learned my lesson I guess. I'll be holding off on buying a new truck if these are the kind of sales tactics I find. I'll wait until stock is high again and buy local.

This is Mac Haik in Houston by the way. Google reviews looked great. Yelp reviews are far more accurate.

They've also ran my credit three different times now, even after I asked them to only run it once.... I wonder if i can get any of those hard inquiries dropped.

You should be able to dispute the credit checks. Miserable experience, wish you didn't have to go through it.

That sucks about their BS games.

Unless you've seen your score reflect otherwise, generally multiple hard pulls for the same thing (auto loan) in a short period won't be any worse than a single pull.

I keep all 3 locked/frozen and only open them for xx hours and tell the creditor that. Pull it in that timeframe or stuff it.

In march, I got 2.88 with my bank. I let the dealer do it to let them make a little and got a slightly better deal than my pre-approval. Some buyers reported even better rates (besides the rare and elusive 0% on HD's).

My (also A rating) score took the biggest (short term) hit because (I believe) I haven't had an auto loan in 10 years. It took 3 months to recover. I guess they want to see those payments.

I have been half heartedly looking for a new truck for a while now. I say half heartedly because I haven't convinced the little woman that we need a big truck payment.....yet.
Anyway, I found one that just about perfectly matches how I want one set up. Trouble is, it's most of the way across the country from me. The price they have it listed for on Auto Trader is decent, but I seem to get the run around when I contact them. I tried to get them to give me a quote, shipped to my door, but they never got back to me.
The last time I spoke with them, they said that particular truck was being sold right then, but if the deal fell through they would call me. Nearly 2 weeks later, it is still listed in their inventory.
I am starting to get the feeling that they just really aren't interested in dealing with me.

I ran into some similar thoughts before I opted to build. What I ended up finding out was that trucks were showing in inventory 2-3 weeks before they even hit the lot. Then once they actually hit the lot, they were sold in a day. Not sure this is your same case or not, but just something to think about.

Yep, if you look at the ad closely it usually states somewhere that it is in transit. Another tell is when you scan through the pictures and they are just stock photos (not pictures of said vehicle), they most likely do not have the truck yet!

Doesn't appear to be the case with the truck that I am talking about, as the pictures of it clearly show it on their lot. Kind of a bummer having them basically ignore a potential customer. Maybe they are just advertising low prices to get people to their lot, then hitting them with a hard sell of a bunch of extras?
The dealer is Ganley, in Painesville Ohio. Anyone have experience dealing with them?

Hahaha...I bet you I was looking at that truck, which one are you inquiring about? I was dealing on a Silver Tradesman that had an internet special price that was what I considered a good/great deal. They also had a black and a blue one at decent pricing. I never felt comfortable enough to make a deal as they never would give me a final price if I did not go there in person. They are less than a hour drive for me, but I only like to deal cars online as my tolerance for car salesman is not good.

I am eyeing the Patriot blue one. Regular cab. They have it listed at $38,671.

Looks like they only have a red one left on their website now. Maybe that is why they stopped communicating with you.

Actually, I just looked at their website, and they have 5 regular cab 3500's still listed. Including the blue one. All of them are optioned very similarly. That red one is nice looking, but it doesn't have the 8.4 inch screen or the side steps.

My bad, I was looking at the 2500's
