TPMS (TIS) sensors for trailer (SOLVED - see 1st post) aka TTPMS - Trailer TPMS

It seems like you're leaving the EVIC on the trailer TPMS screen. That's the only way I can get mine to show that same message.

Have you tried changing the EVIC display setup, or at least moving it off the trailer screen?
 
I've double and triple checked that and i am not on the EVIC screen. I usually leave it on the data screen which shows engine temps, oil presussure etc, but i also tried the speedometer page etc. Maybe i should disconnect the battery for 10 min to reset the evic? What EVIC display setting would you recommend changing?

Thanks to the help in this forum, I got my new 3500 Limited Trailer TPMS setup on my 44' Cyclone 4005 5er. I had starting trying to pair the sensors with the truck parked nose-in under the king pin, and I guess due to the extra distance and the truck itself blocking the TPMS signal, I could only pair the first (front left) tire sensor. The next tire back always failed. So I turned the truck around, putting the rear bumper closer, and all 6 wheels paired the first time. Thanks for the help.
Now that I've setup TPMS though, I can't deselect the 5th Wheel trailer, and it apparently disables rear park sense. Now when I back up (without a trailer attached), instead of Rear Park sense, I see a message saying it is disabled. I thought that going into the Trailer Brake settings (where I setup the trailer TPMS), I would be able to select the 5th Wheel trailer and set "Use This Trailer" to NO, but the option doesn't switch from Yes to No. Any idea how to get my rear park sense back when not trailering?

You can't "deselect" a trailer, you have to pick a different trailer.

Not sure why your park sense isn't re-enabling. You've tried pushing the physical park sense button?

Glad you found it! The truck turns the sensors off when you hook up a trailer, but doesn’t automatically turn them back on.
 
Finally got around to installing the modules. Did anyone else fight to get the connector in the receiver? It took all my strength with gloves on and pushing one side against the back of the hitch to get it plugged in, and the connector is still slightly off kilter.

No, went in like a hot knife through butter. You should never have to force feed a connector.

You didn't somehow manage to reverse key it?

Is it all working?

Definitely didn’t reverse the key. I got the latch to clip over the catch, so it’s on there. It feels like the rubber seal is oversized. The resistance is “squishy” for lack of a better term. Putting the dummy plug back in took the same level of force.

Not sure if it works yet, I haven’t had time to do the AlfaOBD changes and the sensors aren’t installed in the tires yet.

Maybe smear a little dielectric grease on the seal?
 
I am debating installing the OEM Trailer TPMS or going aftermarket like the Tireminder for Android. I have never had TPMS on any of my trailers so I am looking for a little input on what the Pros or Cons of each from those of yo have used both or one or the other. Cost seems to be about the same maybe 100 bucks lees going aftermarket - so not really a major issue.

OEM Pro:
No extra screens

OEM Con:
OEM TTPMS does not report temperature.
OEM TTPMS does not offer a "disconnect" mode. It does remember sensors per trailer, but for my use case double towing most, but not all of the time, TireMinder ends up being a better solution as I can disconnect my boat from the app if I'm only pulling the fifth wheel.
Range: Some are reporting range issues with long trailers. Tireminder repeater solves this. I have mine mounted just in front of the RV tires, wired to a running lamp.
Caveat: Nichols is working on a 12-pin cable (if you also have the aux trailer camera option) to relocate the TTPMS receiver to the RV like the Ford system. To my knowledge, nobody has done this yet.

Tireminder Pro:
Can use their passthru or external screw on (replaceable battery) sensors. OEM (AFAIK) is only the wheel mounted sensors.

DO NOT remove that phillips screw. It screws into a clip that's pressed in. The clip popped out somehow and fell all the way down behind the trim panel. I had to pull the trim panels all the way down and fish it out with a magnetic wand. That lower panel isn't coming out easily with the seat installed. I'm not sure why they did it that way to begin with.

So I didn’t drop the clip, but I dropped the screw, and my magnet doesn’t seem to want to find it. How did you get that bottom panel off??

I didn't get it all the way off, the seat captures it. I was able to detach it from the body and pull the top of it out enough and with LOTS of light I managed to see the dang screw and got it with an extendomagnet.

I honestly don't recall what sort of clips were holding it on.

I should add that warning to NOT REMOVE THE SCREW to the first post. LOL

Damn, I was hoping you’d gotten it out. I got all the clips, but the seatbelt bolt seems to be holding it in, and the only way I’m getting that out is if I remove the whole seat.

I remembered your warning, but thought I remembered it as “don’t drop the screw”, not “don’t remove the screw”. I think I’ve been after the dang thing for over an hour now. I suppose I could close it up and get a new screw, but I know that’ll bug me for a long time.
 
Got it!

For everyone’s future reference, the bottom panel is not actually captured by theseatbelt bolt. There’s Just a clip and peg that are nearly impossible to get out because of pressure from the seatbelt mounting tab. With proper hand placement and pressure you can pop those out and the panel slides out. It was an *exceptional* pain to get back in though. If you ever have need to remove it just do yourself a favor and remove the back seat first.

Anywho, I got the screw out and reinstalled. The EVIC display showing “Trailer Tire Pressure System Not Configured” is displaying, now I just need the pressure setting screen to show up in the center display.

Like many AlfaOBD hacks, that will take some time to show in the radio.

I figured I’d give it some time, but so far every change I’ve made has shown up pretty quickly. Usually just an ignition cycle.
 
I’ve ordered a 2021 with trailer Tpms as an option. Will all I need to do is add valve stem sensors to the trailer tires? Will it automatically recognize them? Not much info from Ram on factory installed as an option either. Want to have the fifth wheel ready for when the truck shows up, have a trip in November. Thanks in advance
